So looks like for now I'll be keeping the ARE cap and looking to re-paint it for the new Taco. The cap is currently painted MGM. The shop will get back to me soon about an estimate for painting.

Now to choose the actual paint....My first choice is to match with the new truck. My concern is I'll be forced to purchase way more paint then I'll need for the cap, and I assume its more expensive than bedliner. Also, I've searched and have found a few (literally) pictures of caps painted with bedliner.

Anyone have any pics of a bedlined cap they're willing to share?

What's likely to cost more - colour-matched paint or bedliner?

What brand of bedliner would work?

I've seen some really scaly heavy-duty bedliner in actual beds - anyone know what ARE uses on their Overland caps?

Have you considered vinyl wrapping the shell? This is what I would do if I were to purchase another Tacoma in a different color

Sell it and buy a new one painted the correct color. Don't half-ass it!!

I thought about that, but given I paid just about $4k tax and installation included, unless I get close to 3/4 of that selling it (just 1 year old), it would be an awful loss...besides, looks like I can get my cap painted for a few hundred...

I've repainted bed caps several times. Usually about 2quarts will be needed. Should only be $100-$150 for matched color paint.

Oh the soft top - if only I didn't live in a city. Security. I'd love a Softtopper b/c of the versatility that comes with folding. But until I retire to the country (which is the plan), I'd end up keeping the Softtopper down most of the time to make sure prying eyes know there's nothing of value in the bed...
