I have every intention of buying a set for my old 4runner, but it is an "off road only" rig. I don't think I would put them on my Taco.

Semi retreads are typically due to improper tire inflation pressures not due to the tire retreading process itself.

I ran retreaded BFG's on my YJ Jeep Wrangler with absolutely no issues. Granted, this was not my daily driver, but they served the purpose that I needed.

Not sure I would put them on my Tacoma, but they worked great for my Jeep which was my hobby vehicle and didn't see much, if any, highway speeds.

I may look into this. I was thinking about getting new wheels and this would be perfect for old TRD wheels that would be just laying around. That way you can have set of beater wheels and tires and a set you play nice with.

I’m not 100% convinced I would want them on my daily driver wheels.

Two guy's I know at work have them. So far so good. One is on a lifted Jeep the other on a Nissan Pathfinder. If I wasn't told they where retreads I would have thought they where new. My next tire purchase.
    Hate away.

Re-Treads might be cheaper for Semi's to use but on a regular car or truck it would be bout same if you bought new.

IMHO i wouldn't use them for your driving tires, but if you wanted a full size spare than i would buy them for that.

Semi trucks and trailers use them all the time. Bandag is one of the oldest names in Retreads. There is no way I'd use them on an off road pickup. Maybe snow tires for my in town driver.

Fuel tank, fenders, light bars, unloading pump and motor, and 3" boxed steel pieces of frame. What are things that have been destroyed by retreads coming apart on my truck over the years. My boss quit using them all together because those repairs added up to way more than the money saved at the tire shop. No matter what anyone says, we all know that, for whatever the reason, they do fly apart. IMO not worth the risk.

3" Lift via OME 881's, Bilstein 5100's, Dakar OME 3" leaf packs, MBRP custom exhaust, HID headlights, CB, Canopy, aluminum wheels, upgraded sound system, full set of studded snow tires and wheels, auxilary lighting, more to come.

It also depends on who you get tires from and who does the re-treading. There is no alternative as far dumptrucks are concerned, it's to costly to run brand new tires because of the constant abuse that they see. We run brand new ones up front, super singles or 24's depending on the truck, when those are shot they go in for re-tread. The tires come back as long as the casing was still usable, i.e. bead isn't torn, no illigitimate patches, etc. with brand new tread which in turn are used on the drive axles for first and second re-tread cycle, then moved to trailers and run out until the casing is garbage. That's a lot of use at a much cheaper cost than brand new tires, you can't argue that. I will say that the only truck that sustained damage from a blow out was totalled completely due to a steer axle tire blowing out (and if you recall I said we only run BRAND new tires on due to state law) and rolling into a median on I-5. Granted highway trucks have a lot more fancy bullshit on them to get ripped off which might cost a little more to replace. IDK I still wouldn't hesitate to run the re-treads, but what do I know? I'm young and stupid and yet to have a family. Oh and Kenworth FTMFW!

One of my good friends just lost a niece to a retread. It happened on the freeway, she lost control of her truck and rolled it. Even a seatbelt and all those airbags couldnt save her life.

At least he's not a freightliner LOL

I've driven trucks with 38 tires hitting the pavement @ $600 or so a piece for virgin tires...thats a boat load of money that nobody wants to give to the tire shop. Especially hauling off road, so I respect what your saying. We run recaps on our manure trucks but they never see the pavement or any speed. I still believe that recaps don't belong on the interstate. IMO.

Also when you have a recap come apart you have to make a decision:
    A) leave it on the road for someone else to crash into.
    B) Go back and dodge high speed idiots, like a game of frogger, trying to pull the main pieces off the road.
I regret to having done both. There's no safe option. For your pickup....why would you want all of these potential problems. New tires are cheap when you count the cost.

offroad use only, ie farm or ranch use, sure why not. on road use, hell no! retread laws are pretty much state specific. but FEDERAL law mandates no retreads on a steering axle. i say, buy new tires. One of the off-road magazines did a article on these tires your talking about several months ago.
