Kinda interesting. I can’t remember which magazine it was, but it was on the rack with the car magazines. For instance the average percentage of major engine failures across all makes and models of vehicles produced since 2016 is less than 1%. Then they looked at individual models and years and ranked them as in line with the overall average, worse, much worse, better or much better. The 3.5L ranked “much better” than the overall average for every year except one if I recall and that year it was just better. Anyway, just found it interesting.

I bought my Tacoma over 8 years ago. Had a handful of first year TSBs that needed addressing but after that it has been trouble free and only requiring regular maintenance.

I've definitely had some major work done on my 2017. Luckily for me it was all covered under extended warranty and hadn't caused any drivability issues as of the time it was discovered.

Good Stuff. Very good stuff. Thank you for the post OP.

My SR5 is a late November ‘18 build. The things that annoyed have all been fixed. Something tapping under the dash only on cold days. Black foam stuffed in between the windshield/dash. The click up front that ended up being a shock bushing failure because of the lack of shoulder on the bolt. Been click free since with a ton of wheeling. Had the recall(s) done, thought there were two, but only found one on the Taco’s history. Maybe the front radar fix was a TSB. They sealed a sensor(?). The Taco doesn’t display the shift thump from 2nd to 1st (?) that some members have complained about, unless I am in S2 and come to a stop. But what the Taco does display is a thump on the initial tip-in from 20mph-40mph when in traffic. Always has been like that since I drove off the lot. No biggy. I never brought it up because the transmission shifts like the kind. And the recent tune has brought the driving enjoyment off the chart. The only other thing that has occurred is the clearcoat on the MGM. Toyota USA can fuck off on that one. But all good, I’m grabbing the pist off Bull by the balls on that one. It’s been a fun experience. The TUD paint is well formulated. Hard to make it run. I ran out, so I had to order more. I’ll tell you, I miss driving my 3rd Gem :0( The craziest moment the motor had was when I didn’t up shift from 1st to 2nd in S mode. The weird thing is, the rev limiter was bypassed with the motor shutting down to idle and a VERY LOUD swoosh. Jake brakes don’t got shit on that sound! But I put it in D and away I went. Recently trying 4LO+TRAC OFF+ECT was a blast because I wanted to see how strong 4LO was. It’s a crazy strong and fast launch. Toyota USA built a stout drivetrain. And most certainly have been having fun with the tune. I have not been gentle on the powertrain. So far so good because it’s a great feeling when you turn the key on a Tacoma to get you somewhere.

I feel the drivetrain is a strong cohesive unit, but will agree, the transmission can be geared better, but a tune makes it soooo much better/useful I could care less now. In sport+, driving the canyons is so much fun.

Since fighting cancer, I’ve been enjoying my Taco. Sometimes to the extreme. You all that have done the same know how precious time is. I won’t baby my Taco. And that’s the whole truth and nothing but.:hattip:
