I'm set on a BDS 6" drop bracket lift for my 2017 Tacoma sport 4wd. I've been on a 3" 5100 with OME coils and DAKAR HD leaf pack for over a year now. I have JBA UCAs and 295/70/17 mud terrains. Since I started driving I've always wanted a lifted Tacoma. I'm born and raised in Hawaii (Oahu) and all you see everywhere you go is lifted tacomas. It's part of our life.

For those of you with real experience with 6" lifts on tacomas what are things I need to look out for? Are traction bars a must right off the bat? How often can I expect to be changing our wheel bearings and ball joints?

I have had 5 trucks with a 6'' drop bracket lift and wheeled everyone of them. I never had a problem but I always replaced the front spacer with full length coilovers/uca and replaced the rear blocks/springs with a full spring pack. The replacement leaf pack has always taken away enough axle wrap that I never needed traction bars. I only drive on the beach/sand and in mud. No trails, no rocks. Also, I've only had to replace bearings when I had boggers installed. With M/T or A/T and 35'' or smaller you are fine.

That's great to hear. I debating between adding hammer hangers that give me 4 more inches of lift or a new Alcan leaf pack. The leaf pack is only a few hundred more so I might just go that route. I already have JBA UCAs and I want to go with the BDS kit that has ful length fox coilovers.

Go with Alcan. That's all I've used and no complaints. I've heard they are selling the business so get that order in!

6 inch Douche Bag lift...what else do I need?
I've beat up my Douche Bag lift on the trail and I have replaced both my frt wheel bearings once (90,000 miles on the truck). No other issues really. However, I've removed all of the stock Toyota suspension, so there's that....

Am I missing something? He asked for real experience and I let him know what my experience has been.

You say you wheel in one sentence and then you say you only drive on the beach and in mud. Neither of which is considered wheeling.

Oh God, really? You’re one of THOSE guys? So you are the expert in the definition of what everyone considers wheeling? Where I’m from, that’s what there is. And when we go “wheeling”, we sling mud and hop dunes. I live 4 hours from the closest trail. Oh, and I never said anything about “wheeling” to begin with, I said I “only drive”.
Did the OP ask for experience with these lifts only on trails? Or did he suggest that he doesn’t do much “wheeling” and just wants a lifted truck?

    Forum lifers are something else

    Yes, you literally did.

The kind of people that put 6” lifts on Tacomas are something else.

If you want a drop bracket lift, I’d say BDS is the way to go... their warranty seems pretty solid...

“If you are the original purchaser of any BDS lift kit and it breaks, we will give you a new part. Period.”

Anything to add? I'm trying to find info but I've only had a few helpful comments so far. Kind of a joke getting answers for anything that's out of the norm for 99% of TW members.
