Reposted from the "Does anyone get 20 mpg" thread.

A 4000 mile trip around the new year gave a grand average 16.2 mpg. This was predominantly highway driving at 55-75 mph. The low section in the middle was a few hours crawling through accidents in a snowstorm in 4WD. Ethanol-free fuel was used for probably 90+% of the trip homebound to test if pure gas gave significantly better economy.

2015 Tacoma DC 4WD TRD with ARB bullbar, bed rack-mounted RTT, OME suspension (about 2-inch lift), BFG AT KO2 235/85-16 at 34 psi. Odometer corrected for tire diameter. Generally there would have been more headwind on the first half of the trip, more tailwind on the back half. Both legs were dominated by sidewinds, as I recall.

2015 DCSB, no lift, pretty much stock.
I do have a soft tonneau cover and some step bars.

    City driving is 15-16 mpg.
Mixed driving is about 17-18 mpg.
    If I really grandpa/hypermile it, I can get 19.

I don't think I've ever gotten an honest 20 mpg.

'15 DCSB Supercharged, over the past 4 years I have averaged 15.3 overall. Living at altitude does have a negative mpg impact. When I head down to the central valley or other lower places I get closer to 20mpg.

'13 DCSB, I was averaging 18.5 over Summer/Fall. I changed my oil and aired up tires to 35 psi (265/70r16) and now getting 19.5-20. 2" lift up front and 1" in back. I drive pretty conservatively though.

Used to get 20 MPG but now with winter gas it's more like 17.5 MPG.

I figured mine would drop. But I guess Louisiana doesn't have much of a winter gas blend.

I get about 12-14. Supercharged with smaller pulley. 285/75r16 LT tires. And a bunch of steel everything plus a roof rack. Towing my camper I'm usually about 8mpg on the highway.

You should've asked more specifics because mpg changes with tire size, lifts, armor, etc.

For an ALL STOCK 2nd gen Tacoma 4x4 automatic V6 4.0 with stock tires at stock air pressure with split 50/50 city/hwy, you will see 18.5 mpg.

before the SC, as high as 20...with the SC on for the last few months (larger injectors), anywhere from 15-17 mpg depending on how disciplined i can be about staying out of the throttle!

You also have to realize many of these guys running bigger tires have not accounted for the odometer/speedometer being off. Usually if you go with a bigger tire, you'll have to add more miles to your calculation. There are calculators on the internet that will do the math for you but the simple math is like this...

Going from a 30" tire to a 33" tire will throw off your speedometer by about 7.5% so if your odometer shows you went 100 miles you actually went 107.5 miles (100 x 0.075 = 7.5 miles + 100 = 107.5). So whatever your odometer shows just add 7.5% to that when you calculate your mpg.

Example: 300 miles on 18 gals of gas, the math looks like this...
    300 x 0.075 = 22.5
    22.5 + 300 = 322.5
    322.5/18 = 17.9

    17.9 REAL mpg!

You need to figure out how far off is your speedometer/odometer by using the calculators online (or a GPS). Once you get your percentage, then you can do the math yourself.

Hope that helps somebody with bigger tires.
