Entire situation is a good reminder that eBay and Amazon are really horrible sources of genuine products nowadays. Too much incentive for sellers to commit fraud because penalties are either too light or non-existent, and there is too much money out there to be made from unsuspecting honest people. That dollar you saved on counterfeits might cost you thousands in repairs later if it grenades. Worth it? Nah.

I certainly will explore the dealer option. Never thought the dealer was going to have a good price based on past experience. I did see a local dealer advertising on ebay.com so maybe purchase local and possibly cheaper with no shipping involved.

That’s rediculous that listing was made to deceive, if I got a no from eBay I would not give up and try to speak to a human being

Also I personally would never buy that many filters at once unless you change your oil really often, having them sit around for long periods of time, I’ve heard they don’t hold up for years like we’d think

You are 100% correct. Certainly will have to pay more attention when purchasing genuine parts from now on. Ebay and Amazon are virtue signaling for sure. I may have to eat this one if the return shipping is rude though.

Good point. I could do 3-4 changes a year @ 5k intervals but I have the 2 year free maintenance in play too.
Yes and if I can get local for a reasonable price there is no need to buy 10.

Just do it yourself. They have the lowest tier employees changing oil. I've been a mechanic for 40+ years.

Seen a lot of "screw ups". It's not that hard. Good Luck ;)

The one I received looks identical to everything in this picture but the box is not the same as USA domestic boxes I have seen. In between the pleats on the filter is stamped
    "TO FIL TOYOTA
    04152-YZZA1"

So got this response from the seller. Apparently he's calming these are real Toyota but for Thailand dealership use. The box is written in Japanese, English and Chinese. I did think they were for overseas use. Plus the color shifting rainbow logo looks legit. I don't think Toyota has a plant in Thailand either. They just sub out to a local for spec manufacturer. Still all this information was never disclosed in their add either.

    "hi
sorry to hear you are not satisfied with your purchase
please do not hurt and leave negative

i can send you label to return for full refund or i can give you 10 usd refund if you want to keep the order

we buy these from closeouts , they are manufactured to Thailand dealership , that is why they might be a slight different from USA market , but quality wise is the same ,

please let me know what to do"

I've been getting my filter from WalMart. Either Toyota OEM or Fram if they're out of stock.

I have no problem with Fram, Made in USA. At least both are legit.

Toyota will only pay for the Oil change every 10k miles I had to pay for mine at the 5k mile intervals.

I change back to using OEM oil filters and I'm getting better gas mileage, has anyone had the same experience?

a 2nd gen owner here. Not sure if you guys seen the write up for 2nd gen oil filters, i only go to toyota to buy oil filters. all the other brands just make the filter for the 2.7. they dont make one for the 4.0. the size differance is huge. plus, they are made my denso. so, they are good. usually, the dealer gives me a discount for 4-5 bucks a piece

He may be telling the truth. From this thread it appears the newer filters are orange.
Also read down to someone who bought the same colored filter when he was in Thailand.

These filters are the lighter color as I said earlier. All the contents in the box match the "factory" contents including the wrapper on the O rings. There is even a hologram on the box top that looks legit as far as I can tell. As I stated earlier the stamp on the pleat of the filter that says "TO FIL TOYOTA 04152-YZZA1" on two lines of type. The box is different from US domestic and supposedly for Thailand dealership use.

It seems pretty stiff if you try to squeeze it. But these are the only Toyota filters I have ever examined. If I really tried I could flatten it.
