Colorado to Texas transplant and threw a proper on ramp 360 last week. Followed by a 'could not get traction yet I drive a 4x Tacoma' moment at an intersection inner city. Do these tires really suck that bad??? Who else has had some 'Rugged Fail' stories.

Yea I ran them for 45k. I never had a complaint until they were worn out.

    Lots.
Did a 360 pulling out onto the highway with the Dueler H/Ts that came on my truck. They were without doubt the worst tires I've ever owned.

Had them on my 2011 OR. Got a nail in one of them after a couple thousand miles and used it as an excuse to get BFG All Terrains.

I never had a problem with them until I got the AT KO. Literally a WORLD of difference. Better turning, braking, wet and dry traction, and WAY better off road obviously. I just don't see the Rugged Fails as the proper tire for the Off Road edition.

I don't think they're AWFUL. Just not good...

    Story:

Took them Offroad twice...once for very mild offloading, the other when I had to park in a field. Barely made it through the mud, and had to use 4lo to get out of the grassy field after a light rain...

I ran them off road many times, including hundreds of miles in death valley. No problems. I got rid of them for duratracs with 20k on them. Had two flats with duratracs after 10k. Which only means that I ran over sharp objects...That said, I would not buy the rugged trail, as there are better tire choices out there.

I wouldn't buy the Rugged Trails ever cuz of all the bad hype...

That said, the Dunlops that came on my TRD Sport also sucked! I am extremely happy with my BFG TA/KO's!

I have heard everything about tires. People on BMW forums say it's the most important piece of the vehicle that one can upgrade. Others have said that tires are just for looks and are all the same..

I love the way the BFG's look ( I went a little bigger 265/70/r17 ) but they also handle much better. We've had a ton of rain in San Diego and because we get so little rain, the roads are extra oil'y.. My Dunflops would spin out with the most gentle touch of the throttle, but the BFG's have traction no matter what!

I took them out to the desert and found a real sandy little path that was about a mile long and I took it both directions ( Prerunner ) so no 4x4 or locker and even though I could feel the tires spin at points, I never dug in. And I didn't rely on momentum. In a couple places where I couldn't see well I slowed wayy down and even had to make a 3 point turn in one place. I stepped on the throttle from a complete stop and I felt them spin but they ultimately grabbed and I was on my way. Lots of fun!! And not that much more expensive than the Dunlops..
