I have a 2010 Tacoma Access Cab 4cyl 4x4 SR5 (No TRD packages). I want to know if the tow hook under the front bumper is an actual tow hook and safe to use as one or if it is just a tie down point for tow trucks/shipping etc. I need to pull a piece of a tree that fell down out of the woods tomorrow and don't have a tow hitch in the back yet. Thanks in advance.

Nice. Im glad to hear its a real tow hook. I know some times they aren't made to handle a heavy load but im glad toyota puts a real tow hook on a 4cyl and you don't have to have the offroad packages to use your truck as a truck.

I have however been told to avoid pulling things in reverse. Bad for the differential I suppose.

I used mine to pull a tree off the road that had fell down. I was on my way to a trail head and I really didn't want to hike any further than needed.

Now the embarrassing part...I didn't think to use that little hook until after A LOT of hand work trying to move the tree.

    It worked beautifully.
