43 miles doesn't mean much. I've gotten close to 40 mpg driving up to 30 miles downhill all the way with a F150 with a V8. I've gotten 4 mpg over few short distances too.

Trusting the onboard calculations is not good either. Most all of them are optimistic compared to a more accurate hand calculation. My Ford F150 has been pretty darn accurate over the years. Never off by more than 1/2 mpg, but always 1/2 mpg more than what I get hand calculating it. I've seen other vehicles consistently 4-5 mpg off. I'd do a few months of hand calculations and compare that to what you truck says to get a feel for how accurate it is.

I only keep accurate records when on long road trips, but out of habit I almost always hand calculate my fuel mileage with every fill-up. My 07 Tacoma gets 16-17 mpg with everyday driving. On road trips 19-20 mpg. Best ever was 22-23 on a couple of tanks in Arizona and southern Utah. I was on 2 lane roads where 55 was as fast as it was safe to drive. Lots of hills too. You burn a little more going up, but more than make up for it coasting down. It is high speed driving and wind resistance that kills fuel mileage.

On that same road trip I only got 16 mpg on the road between Denver and Kansas City because I was driving into a strong headwind. Once I got past KC, and out of the wind, fuel mileage went back to 20 mpg for the rest of the trip back to GA.

    I pull, on average, 18-20mpg

This is on 275/70/17 AT tires, a roof rack, and a 2.5” lift.

I have not tracked MPG for many years. I no longer commute and when I did I was also racing bicycles so I rode to work.

I only care when pulling our fiberglass travel trailer and then it is just so I have an idea when I may need to fill up again, especially when traveling in more remote areas.

Leveled with Bilstein 5100 shocks, Falken Rubitrek AT 265/75 tires, Redline hood struts, R4T tailgate lock, Matt Gecko LED strips in bed and under hood, WeatherTech hood guard, OEM bed mat, Husky floor mats, Carhart seat covers, Grille replacement with Toyota letters, Sony AX6000 head unit, OTT lite/mild tune, and an occasional splash of fuel additive.
265/75/16 tires, Bilstein 5100s with 1.5 inch lift, OTT Tune, 19-20 MPG around town this winter, expect a 1 MPG increase when gas formulas change and outside temperatures increase. Lots of variables like wind, pavement, heavy foot. Not worried too much about it , just a habit of checking. I calculate using gas buddy application at each fill up.

Yea my trips run about 22-23 mpg.
Tank avg not so much I take breaks in my truck and idle plus remote start and cold Vt temps make it crash.
Kinda don’t care I just put more gas in it when it needs it and continue on!
285/75/16s small lift I enjoy my ride!!

stock truck with OE tires and summer blend fuel i average 22-23 MPG. i drive mostly two-lane roads in the 45-65 MPH range which is ideal.

in the winter with AT tires i lose about 10%. on long drives with sustained high speed i also lose about 10-20%.

These trucks get 20-22 depending on summer or winter. All the postings are pointless, drive a full tank and post

My new SR5 with only 1,300 miles shows that I get about 373 miles on a full tank. I’m happy with that.

I hear ya, I could get that by coasting down I-77 through fancy gap in N.C.

Yep, when the truck stays in the rare conditions allowing it to be in the low rpm, low power, high gear Atkinson cycle mode it’ll return great numbers.

Add some hills and some weight and it all goes out the window.

I'm laughing at some of y'all saying 40 miles isn't much of a run. I only drive that much in one go if i'm going out of town. My normal commute is like 5 miles one way. If for some reason I need to go to the outskirts of town its 15 miles.

Depending on the weather (wind mostly) I always average high 19 to low 21 mpg per TANK.

That's also with a steel bumper and OTT tune. Stock tires no lift.

40 miles is not much of a run where I live since everything is spread out.

120 miles round trip gets me to work.

And I have gotten anywhere from 13-22MPG depending on the day on 295 MT's roof rack with boxes, awning, tent high offset wheels, snorkel some days a boat some days wind somedays uphill some days down hill with the wind.
As stated a short trip means nothing but helps us feel better once in awhile.

I usually get pop up about low fuel when I get down to about 20 to 30miles left before I get to "please refuel" message.

But don't worry, if your fuel gauge on 3rd gen reaches zero, then the message will say "please refuel" and you will have about 20 miles left of reserved gas which allows you to find nearest gas station.
