New 2015 4x4 V6 auto. Want to pull Luhrs 29' open weighing 10000-12000. I don't have to go but 200 yds to the ramp but I still have to pull it out on a triple axle trailer with brakes. Ramp has good traction and isn't very steep at all.

I was told it had a 14K lb pull load which seems high for a fairly small vehicle although the 4x4 will help and it doesn't have to travel on roads or hills just the ramp and a short distance.

    So what's the word?

    Thanks

    M

Is moving a boat 200 yds with risking damage to your new truck? Warranty doesn't cover that.

In all reality, it would probably do it like a champ in 4lo taking it easy, but what if it didn't? Don't you know someone with a one ton you can supply a case of cold adult refreshment to?

does pulling that weight void the warranty. They said 14,000 lb although I didn't really believe that was correct. I'd look it up in my trusty book they gave me but the truck is in HI and I'm in SC until Dec 7. Ready to pull the string on a boat but want to do my due diligence. Thanks for the replies BTW.

    I'm not imagining things.
To my knowledge, it does not. But as @landphil stated, is it worth the risk?

Is it really worth chancing your warranty over 200 yards? Placing a load that size on a midsize pickup is definitely putting some stress on the components. Too me, it's too risky. Do as you please OP, but be wary of the consequences if it doesn't work out. I'm sure the dealer could tell the truck was placed under a great deal of stress if they really looked for "wear" signs.

The boat will be shipped from the East Coast to Long Beach then loaded on a boat for transport to Hilo HI. I will have it towed to the marina by a friend.

Pulling it 200 yds will damage the transmission and/or frame??

No one knows, chance you'll be taking. Highly doubt the frame will be damaged, but power train could give.

3500 lbs or so I think. I'll have to recheck. These boats are normally on a lift or in the water. Slips are nearly impossible to get there so dry storage is necessary.

Who said? A salesman? 6500lbs is the highest possible rated towing capacity of a 2nd gen Tacoma, if equipped with the tow package and a weight distributing hitch. You put 1000 - 1200 lbs hitch weight on it (10% of gross) and try to lift off, bad things can happen very fast. And yes, any failure that can be proven to be caused by abuse or overloading (proven by failure analysis after the failure) will not be coved by warranty.

yeah no.... 3500lb tongue weight is WAY WAY over what you ever want to put on the back of the taco.

That's an option. BTW I think the towing capacity is more like 7000 lbs. It is not 14000 lbs which is more like a big diesel truck ie 350 or 3500. I don't think that is in 4 low though. I don't know what the multiplication factor is for 4 low. I'm still not worried about the flat towing for 100-200 yds but I am getting it up the ramp. That's just me and I am listening to you all, ok.

I'll have to check on the tongue weight. If the boat weighs 10000 lbs then I doubt the tongue weight is that high. That's just the number that came to mind. I'll find out. Some of that depends on the trailer and how it carries the boat.

One can never have too many light bars.
You can rent a heavy duty truck from home depot. Its like 20 bucks an hour.

Drive train stress aside (Which would be amplified on the ramp), I would imagine ramp issues even in 4 lo with good traction and only a slight grade, keeping in mind that you're going uphill with 10-12k from a stop with the added weight of water on the trailer. JMHO.

That's something to consider. Often you can put the boat in and leave if for not quite $10 per day in the water for a week or so which would keep down the need to rent it multiple days. I have to get the tongue weight estimated but you can level with an air system. They're not expensive. I'm still concerned on damaging the tranny. Won't matter if it pulls out without undue strain.

I'm concerned after reading the responses though. I can invite someone to fish who has a bigger truck, huh. :)

Yeah, pretty embarrassing to have to get pulled out of that problem. I'm sure the marina can advise but I'm trying to get as many opinions as I can.

What weight will it pull out safely?
