I've never seen a boat trailer with electric brakes, they have surge brakes. The reason should be obvious.

Typical tong weight is 10-12% 14,000 X12%= 1680# If there were springs enough to carry the weight I don’t see any reason it would not pull it in low range. The amount of weight on the hitch would be like filling the bed to the top with dirt it’s just too much weight for the truck it’s not the pull but the weight.

    Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes
    Crazy Or Genius, They Work
    By Pat Piper

To a lot of people, the idea of using anything with the word "electric" in the water is a non-starter. But electric over hydraulic brakes on boat trailers are now an option on models built by EZ Loader, Magic Tilt, Pacific Trailers, and Loadmaster, to name just a few.

    http://www.boatus.com/magazine/trailering/2013/february/electric-over-hydraulic-brakes.asp

    Surge brakes are old school.

You might need a lift kit but I've been corrected here and the trailer builder over this. I just heard it wrong. My bad. He said 1/2 ton give or take.

Yes and have my insurance agent cancel my insurance. That town is very small and eventually everything gets around to most.

The rare pin tail hitch is definitely the answer. Also, pancakes.

Nice, I can see how that would work keeping the electric parts out of the water. Yes, surge brakes are legacy.

Put a set of air bags on the truck (to stay off the axle set solid on the stops) - air it up, put it in low range and move it. The tow rating of the vehicle is "at speed" - not creeper gear....... some of these guys on the forum actually "jump" the damn things (if you want to see a truly damage prone activity) - not with a trailer - but the impact is what does the damage. If you do a bit of searching on here, you'll soon see 6 wheel trailers with earth moving equipment on them.

Has anyone asked how steep the launch is? If it's not very steep, i would make like a blind man in an orgy, and feel things out. By that, i mean hook up to it, slowly lower the trailer onto the truck and itll likely bottom out the back. Then, put her in drive and just see what happens. If it seems to move easily, proceed with caution. If you gotta rev the shit outta your truck or you cant turn or sumpm, stop.

I pull a 4000 lb boat with no issues, but you're def over what these trucks are made for.
