New 2018 Limited. Getting 23.3 highway
19 in town. Mine is 4x4 with stock 18 inch rims for now. 600 miles, so I have been taking it easy on it.

Pretty much my experience. I set my cruise to 62 on the highway if I'm not in a hurry and drive with a light foot to try and keep it in Atkinson mode as much as possible. I get about 21 mpg.

Too many hills, too much stop and go and driving over 70 mph will kill my mpg really fast. Drove from Ohio to South Carolina averaging 75 to 80 mph on the expressway last summer and got about 18 to 18.5 mpg.

This thing gets the best mpg cruising on flat terrain at 40 to 50 mph with no stopping. I've seen it get as high as 24 mpg in those situations.

If you're buying a truck and concerned about mileage, you should buy a Prius instead... :)

With that said, your question is impossible to answer. What your driving habits are, the terrain you drive, how long you will sit in traffic, what kind of transmission you have, which way and how strong the wind is blowing, if you will be adding a lift, larger wheels/tires, etc and about a hundred other variables are all major factors in your fuel economy. A fairly safe bet is that if you are driving conservatively on the highway (70MPH or less) on flat terrain, figure 18-21 MPG unloaded and 16-18ish around town. Again, there are too many variables to give you anywhere near a definitive number, but you can roughly expect something in that neighborhood give or take a couple MPGs.

I drive 80 miles round trip to work and back on mostly flat terrain conservatively (smooth, non-aggressive starts/stops) driving the speed limit (55-60) the entire way. With a 6 speed and slightly upsized/more aggressive tires, I routinely average 20 MPG but have had as low as 15-16 on the same drive with a massive headwind, if I drive more aggressively (hey, we've all been late or need to make it home faster...), or on the rare occasion that traffic is bad.

This has been my experience as well. Manual calculation and computer +- .5 MPG leaning towards the computer reporting on the high side. It meters gas through the sensor and of course manual measures gas left in the tank. In summertime especially, there is some evaporation and the longer time between fill ups the more will be notice.

My best tank was 12.3 l/100km (19.1 US mpg) and worst was 17.8 (13.2 mpg). Stock except for really heavy, slightly oversized, E-rated KO2s. I think I drive my manual truck a little hard because it is slower than I am used to. Still fun, just slow.

I find the dash computer estimates fuel consumption pretty well.

My long term average with the 5-speed 4 banger is 20mpg. This past weekend we took a trip down the Thruway to pick up some furniture with an enclosed uhaul trailer. 500 miles round-trip, averaged 16mpg doing 70mph. Not too shabby.

I notice octane plays a huge role. Here in commiefornia we only get 87 89 and 91, I get considerably higher mpg (21 to 24 mpg) on 89 while only 18 to 20 on 87

I track miles and fuel with all my trucks. And factor in error for tire size. My computer is also within an acceptable margin of error. Confidently I'd say around .3 mpg. And that's been accurate for 30k on this truck so far.

Nice looking truck. I have the same truck and tire in 17" skinny, mild lift and ARE topper and usually avg 19.5-20 mpg but I run the OV tune. I am now on the latest TSB stock tune and last tank of reg grade gas netted 18.5 mpg. Did you notice a big change with the Gofast Camper?

Thanks for all the great feedback. I realize there are MANY variables that affect mileage but based on what I'm seeing in the responses I think 19 - 22 is probably a good estimate based on my location (NH) and driving style (slow and steady - where possible). My hot rod days are long over, now I just try to survive the commute. I'll be moving from a Subaru Crosstrek (@~33-34 MPG) so the impact will be fairly significant (more than 12 MPG).

Mpg numbers. Just food for thought.

    15000 miles / year
    Mid grade @ 3.20

    Mpg - cost / wk
    23 / $40.13
    21 / $43.96
    18/ $51.28
    17.5/ $52.75

At most, you're looking at a rough $13 difference per week comparing the far ends of the scale. Not telling people how to spend their money or passing judgement. But I do have friends that do need to squeeze hard to save $13 a week because its a huge deal to them.

    They don't drive tacomas.

    Forgot to report last time.
Manual transmission. 3" lift. 265/75r16 duractracs c load, prinsu rack, kb voodoo rack, tepui kukenam Rtt, kayaks / canoe for most of the warm season , and I'm at roughly 1,300 miles off-road and about 75 miles of trails this year.

17.5 for an every now and then low.
    17.8-18.5 is my common mpg.
Same pump. Recorded with pen and paper

An unsung note about the third gen that I have to mention is that it does significantly better fuel wise in low range than either of my second gens did. Roughly +4mpg / tank with a weekend of trails .

When I just head to jobsites at like 4/5am I get around 30mpg, but I average 22 with mixed traffic.

Based on my rough calculations I'll be spending approximately $700 more on gas per year - so it's not nothing!:spending:

    Nice rig BTW!

I'm in NH too and am averaging 20-21 on my 18 OR. slightly larger tires(265/75/16), OVTune, and cross bars over the bed for my mountain bikes.

    Thanks !

My point is that how far is everyone pinching for $12 across the board? Non smoker? Only make coffee at home? Generic brand over name brand on everything? Bought a $35k truck that only hauls something twice a year and if they just got a car the difference in gas over the whole year could have paid for a rent-a-truck?

Not directed at anyone specific and no judgement being passed, as mentioned before. You can blow up any numbers you'd like to make them seem significant. But those numbers need to then be applied to over all life spending to be quantified.

That's why I keep it at a week. The average person who gets coffee spends about $2 on coffee a day. That's $730 a year.

But on this site I don't really worry about people pinching pennies, because the truth is the majority of the people who own trucks only use them to their potential maybe a few times a year. So buying a truck was a terrible financial choice anyways. Which is no big deal because trucks are awesome and everyone can do whatever they want with their money. Just seems silly to see MPG comments in a truck forum, specifically regarding 3rd gens that start at $32k.

Also, note that's comparing 23-17.5 on a modded truck that lives on dirt and mtns. 20-23mpg is about a $5 a week difference.
