Just to pay devil's advocate here, wouldn't it actually be easier to drive a full size pickup through the streets of a big cit as opposed to a Tacoma pulling a trailer behind it?! The rationale of having a tacoma and a trailer over a full-size pickup doesn't seem to make sense to me.

Mine is constantly at 3k+ just on mild hills on the highway with no weight on it.

Yea I am sure from all that I have read on here there could be a big difference in my towing experience
but I am up to it and I don't tow 5 times a year any more but at least two times at that WT. Right now I just want my Tacoma to show up at the dealers ,They said DEC.28TH :fingerscrossed:

I plan to haul my 3500 Casita maybe ten times a year. It should handle that reasonably well but yeah, the engine will be screaming bloody murder the whole time probably. lol

You expect to find a full size truck that will take 6800 lbs in the bed ? Maybe a an 10 wheeler

I'm sure a 2016 V6 Taco, with a proper hitch amd trailer brakes, will easily handle occasional towing of your planned dump trailer and cargo with a weight totalling in the 5000-6000 lbs range. The engine will rev and you'll probably get poor mileage but it will tow the load. The trailer won't be 9 ft high like those of us with travel trailers and pushing a big trailer through the wind effects the truck more than the weight. There's people on here that will tell you to get an F-250 to tow a 3500 lbs tent trailer, it's ridiculous.

Of course, you could save your pennies for a diesel Canyon. This might be the ideal use. But, it cost as much as full size and may not last as long as a Tundra. Personally, at a lot of weight, I would go full, size.

Sounds like you're just looking at the wrong type of vehicles altogether.

OP seems to want it all in one vehicle. He doesn't want to shell out the loot for a full size, but wants a mid size that will haul more than a full size will, but also wants it to be his daily driver and "pussy magnet" as he referred to it earlier. And I thought most of the 2nd Gen owners and people trashing the 3rd Gen Tacomas had lofty expectations! I think this guy just won the grand prize in that category! an't wait to see who will start complaining to top that!

"rationale of having a tacoma and a trailer over a full-size pickup doesn't seem to make sense to me."

Well, that is not the way I took this statement. I assumed you felt the full size could handle the same load in a bed that the Tacoma could tow. Regardless, we tend to over think this as we often do. Tacoma's are seldom good work trucks for a contractor. They are for the average guy who doesn't use it often. But there is a huge difference between having a towing capacity of 6800 lbs and actually doing it daily. The guy needs a full size truck if his original post is accurate.

Sounds like you want something like a first gen tundra. Similar size to the current Tacoma but with a v8

First of all, unless you're going to get a 2wd single cab short box, the max towing capacity will be around 6400 lbs. Second, don't listen to all the nay saying pussies on here that say the Tacoma is not a real truck. Other than the higher revving engine and shifty transmision, the Gen3, like the Gen2 will tow what it says it will. That said, if you are planing to tow 6000 plus lbs daily, then I would too would recommend a full size. If it is once a month or even once a week then you'll be fine. Also, don't forget to install a good brake controller.
