A car dealer can make anything sound good or look good on paper, they don't stay in business giving "deals".

It’s essentially a tax credit for trade in, not some deal or dealer numbers. Look up the kbb value of a 2016 Tacoma Offroad with 65k miles. My zip code it’s $23,200 average. I’ve always been able to negotiate up trade value (last Tacoma I traded was above the kbb range), but say you’re right there at 23,500 for trade in. If your state has 7% tax then that’s an additional $1,645 straight off your out the door price. So $25,145 is essentially what you got for the truck.

The private party value is $25,398. Assuming you are lucky enough to get that ~250 is not worth going through the large amount of hassle involved in a private sale to me. Personally after going through the experience it wouldn’t be worth it to me for $1,000 either :p (now if I had time for all the test drives and time wasters these days, maybe)

So you list the actual amount of the transaction when doing private party?

EDIT: nvm. I read it wrong

Not sure what you’re asking. You might list at the high kbb value or over to allow for negotiation but you can’t go too high if you advertise on the popular car sites now - they straight up say if the list price is a good deal on the ad - and everyone checks the value now. The more you’re trying to get out of it compared to that the longer it’s going to take to sell typically which compounds the problem if you’re still driving it as the value is going down as the clock ticks and the miles go up.

Okay - Though not scientific I feel like I need to put some numbers to the "2wd resale sucks" comments.

Base MSRP for 2019 TRD Sport DCSB per Toyota.com:
    2wd - $33,800
    4wd - $37,375

Average Trade-In Value for 2019 TRD Sport DCSB with 8k miles and "very good" condition (using North AL zip code) per KBB.com:
    2wd - $26,205
    4wd - $29,068

Using these numbers, the 4wd was $3,575 more expensive to purchase initially and brings only $2,863 more on the trade. Throw in added gas (lower fuel economy) and more maintenance (more moving parts) and the 2wd is looking even better for someone that doesn't need a vehicle motivated by all four wheels.

    All that said:
Yes - the 4wd will bring in more on resale but it also cost significantly more up front and in fuel an maintenance while in use
No - the 2wd resale does not suck

**Disclaimer - I have a TRD Sport DCLB in 2wd. It does what I need day to day and if I need 4wd I get in one of the family farm trucks.

Thanks man. I’m not sure yet...

definitely will not be going the fully loaded route with whatever I do. .

I end up just modifying my vehicle... might as well get the base.
