$2k? Chicken feed. I sank back $38k. Im still way positive over what I've contributed myself.

Sustained 15 percent gains were just unrealistic.

Looking at losses makes people do stupid things. Just keep throwing money at it, there will probably be 100 more corrections and 10 more recessions in our lifetime (depending on your age).

Hope to at 62 (10 years ) if not , Im perfectly fine working until 65 . My job doesn't involve any labor so the old bones wont have to work to hard. My house is paid for and I wouldn't mind one bit downsizing soon but I don't see that happening any time soon.

I don’t want to ever stop working.

The only things I ever desire to have a plethora of time off a job to do and enjoy are things I need to do while I’m young. If I wait till I’m older... I’ll probably be too old to do what I want and when your old and not able to do much physically that is the perfect time to be working! LOL

Traditional retirement does not sound the least bit appealing. I love what I do too much.

    Not me.

I will retire in less than 6 years from my current job.

Hope to be sitting on 7 figures.

I will still work, but it will be at my convenience.

I hope you are still saving for retirement. You may not have a choice after a certain age.

I've come to the realization that our generation is fucked. 26 - making OK money for the Bay Area. Paying 1K-1.5K a month on student loans just so I can be done with it by mid next year.

Companies nowadays offer sub-par benefits (cheapest medical plans, no 401K or no match, piss poor vacation time, the list goes on).

Wanna buy a house in Cali? HAH! go to the farmlands in the middle of nowhere just to afford a place nowhere near any high paying jobs are.

Should've went military looking back at it now.

Oh I an doing my 15%. I’m a Dave Ramsey rule follower. I’ll be a millionare by the time I’m 40.

Like you said you have to prepare for when you aren’t able to work.

I just don’t fantasize about not working like most. But I love my job and most people don’t lol.
You are only a victim when you make yourself out to be one.

Its possible to pay off debt and live decently.

If that means you have to get a part time job to pay your loans off faster thats what it means.
If that means you have to live in another area or state to afford a house, thats what it means.

Its all possible. It takes sacrifices to get there but its all possible.

    I agree.

There is really no way one can retire early in a high rent district.

I've come to the conclusion that I don't really care where I end up as long as I'm comfortable.

There is so much to see and do in this country, I'd rather live somewhere cheap and visit the costly places.

My attention span is so short, this makes the most sense for me.

At the rate this country is going and given my age, I’d say about the ripe age of 87

In reading back a little on this thread I think we all have a different definition of retirement. Some say never retire because they envision sitting on the front porch in a swing drinking lemonade (or much stronger). Some think it's retiring from their current career and doing something less stressful but still earning money. Others are a hybrid of both. I look at retirement as being able to financially support myself and my wife reasonably comfortable including aging care without burdening my children. I don't intend to work for money when I leave my current job. My current job is horribly stressful and has way too much responsibility to continue for many more years. On the other hand I won't have enough income to play golf, travel the world, and fish every day. I'll be able to do some of that but there's a balance.

Does quitting my job to live off Uncle Sucker count?

Thats what I’d like to do is just work part time (30-40 hours a week).

Full time retirement seems excessively boring to me.
