I have no debt now. Making 135k per year. Maxing out HSA and 401k. My employer just announced the matching rate for the next 3 months. 50%!!! We are also expecting a nice profit sharing next March. Rumors of 50k :)

Maybe if inflation doesn’t kill me I’ll get to enjoy a little retirement. Someday.

50 percent match!! Is there a max ? That's a sweet set up. If ur young that could be a game changer for retirement. Congrats

The match is 2x the company’s ROA up to a max of 50%

The only contribution caps are if we are considered a HCE.

Early 50s and seeing retirement getting closer.

I always had some investments thru work and FINALLY started to do my own and diversify. Just really wish I understood it more and I think I would rather bamboo shoots shived up my pee hole than read about it. As soon as I open a book or an article I am gone. Now if it were maps or true adventure stories I wouldnt be able to put it down

I'll be retiring in about 2.5 years on 60k a year with no debt. I'll still have to buy health insurance for a couple years before Medicare kicks in and I won't be traveling the world but I won't have to go to work either. Simple retirement exploring nature in my Tacoma.

I wish I had done this when I was 18!! This ETF is killing it. Very very low costs , excellent returns .... there is also a mutual fund version. I'm sure Fidelity and Charles Swab have similar.

First time I put money in a Roth with Vanguard I intentionally didn’t check it for a few years. Only regret was not putting in more when I started in my 20s. Only in my 30s now so have time, but would have been nice! Good thing wife is in her 20s :D

    Stock and staying that way
That is a tough question. My girlfriend (soon to be fiance but she doesn't officially know that) has significantly less saved than I do. And our situation is complex in that we will have to maintain two houses for some time. But on my own, 5 more years and I could punch out comfortably. Realistically, we plan to work until the end of 2030. If the market tanks, maybe longer. I am 51.

I have put money in a 401k for a long time, but never the max until the last few years. And I had some expensive hobbies, racing cars and travel. I don't regret any of it. I don't race anymore but still travel. Just got back from a week in Egypt and a week in Jordan.

Feb.1 2022 baby! Though will semi-retire and work 2 days a week from home. I will fully retire whenever I want but this 2 day a week thing is a good deal for a while at least.
Have an IRA, 401K, and a small Roth IRA with SS starting in feb. Also have a small pension from a previous job.

Start your 401Ks and max it out early guys you won’t regret it, time flies! I started late but managed to catch up maxing out in retirement savings everything I could.

I was wanting to get out at 62 but our new contract expires in May 2029 , Ill be 63 in March of that year so Im going to hang around a couple more months , might get a buyout . My house is paid for , no debt really to speak of . I moved my retirement to a more safe option after the last election , proved to be a good move , Ive not made much but I also havent lost any like my coworkers have , scary what they tell me theyve lost . I plan on downsizing house wise then me and the wife will do some traveling .

This market downturn has me working longer. Unfortunately I'm probably looking at 62 or more also. :(

Unless someone is being a dip and is in single stocks, they haven't lost anything. In fact if you've consistently invested throughout early 2020 what you put in during that time you made considerable gains on.

I'm always very hesitant to believe anyone's story about losing all this money in the market. Usually people who say things like that aren't invested well or don't have enough invested so they freak over small changes.

I'm a 100% S&P 500 Index guy in all my investments (super boring). My accounts are not in the red. Now the market has been very stagnant for a minute but it's not falling significantly.

One should not be relying on short term bull markets to retire. If they are, they don't have enough, and you probably don't want to take any advice from them or use them as a judge of financial decision making.

Also being very cash or bond heavy is going to guarantee you lose money. People get afraid to lose money in the stock game, but not investing is a promise of returns lower than inflation. You are a young guy and I hope have quite awhile for that money to stretch.

Everyone keep calm and invest on.

I’ll be retiring in 6.5 years at 55 with a pension. My gross annual income won’t be as much as it is while working, but my net income will be about the same (for my remaining life). I also have a semi healthy 401k to pull from when needed. My wife will retire (with her pension and 401k) 4 years after I do. She will continue to work after retirement, probably consulting because she wants to continue work. I’ll never work again…

We won’t be rich but we will be comfortable.

No kids has made a big difference for us financially.
