Really can't decide between DCLB or AC (4x4)

I have a 2007 TRD OR Access Cab. I had a hard time choosing between it and the dclb. There were a variety of factors that caused me to choose the AC

1-Garage-DCLB would not fit
2-Locker-I have used it a few times to get out of some pretty sticky situations
3-I like to go off road every now and then and the longer wheel base may cause problems off road
4-My dog fits great in the back of the A/C-Granted, the 2007 doesn't have the stupid center console in the back, so the dog has the full back seat to lay down/hang out.
5-Camper shell-I added a camper and I feel it makes the truck more versitile than an open bed. I can hoist it off in about 5 minutes if I need an open bed. (The net cost of the a/c with camper shell(bought used) was much cheaper than the dclb.

I do wish I had the extra seating for friends, but that is what the wife's 4runner is for!

 

Thanks bamma. I share all of those points. Definitely would put a camper/softtop on the bed. I would probably build some sort of platform for the dog if I got the AC. Girlfriend is planning on buying a 4runner here soon so for friends we could use that. I actually have liked being the person to drive people around, I just like to drive I guess. It would definitely be a change not being able to drive other people camping and what not. As for the locker I have used mine a few times, but I'm sure I could have made my way out some way else. An ARB down the road might be thrown in the DCLB if thats what I got.

 

Looking at many people's DCLB on this site I think they will handle fine off road for the majority of situations especially if you just go a couple times a year or something. The long bed is nice especially if you plan to haul anything. And I enjoy having the extra seats and room in the back for people/extra gear. I spend a lot of time mountain biking with friends so the truck is basically a shuttle bus for us and it works great, the A/C might be too small for me.

 

DCLB!

 

Personally I like the lines of the access cab, but the DC would def. have been my first choice since I have two kids. My decision came down to price and nothing else: had to be used and cheap(ish). Overall i like my AC, but it can get cramped in a hurry!

 

I for one, disapprove of this change in vehicles.

JK pbcolt, you had a very clean 4runner and Im sure the taco will be no different.

It simply comes down to personal preference. Some people like the look of the AC some like the DC. Some need the extra seating, some don't.

I don't think you can go wrong either way, just decide what is best for you.

One other thing, the DCLB actually rides a bit smoother due to the extra long wheelbase. (I honestly think the DCSB rides a bit better too, but I personally needed the 6ft bed, which is almost too short as it is).

If I had the garage space I may have picked up the DCLB, it is a sweet truck, just a bit harder to fit in the garage. If you do get a DCLB, put on a lift and larger tires, it makes them look even better!

 

How do you guys ever make a damn decision. My girlfriend is about to kill me from all this truck talk.

First I decide I want the long bed and double cab

Then I decide I dont need the double, go with access cab

Then its I can get by with the 5 foot bed and extender, DCSB it is!

Now I have a kickass deal I could take on a DCSB TRD Off-road and im 5th guessing whether I should just get the DCLB sport.

Spending some serious coin and really don't want to screw this one up.

just get a DCSB! youll love it espically the locker in the off-road. ive never needed the extra length in the bed.

 

I have an AC and for me it's perfect.
If/when I ever have kids then I'll probably have to reconsider, probably a 4runner or DCLB.

I personally wouldn't even consider a short box as to me you may as well get an SUV then.

The access cab has lots of room for 2 people and the occasional 3rd of 4th, fits in my garage, and is easier to park. Plus the 6 foot bed easily holds my mountain bike and a fridge with the tail gate closed. I have a cap and have slept in the bed a few times, all of which would be difficult with a SB.

As I mentioned, the only thing that would make me change my mind is kids, and for my wife and I that may never happen or at least be years down the road.
