Really confused about shocks, and would appreciate some advice.

    Sounds like you're on the right track. If it's not already factored in make sure to add one of those trailer brake cotrollers to the mix. I want to say, if I recall, there is already a wire or maybe even a plug up by the front left foot to plug into.

    Yep, the harness is right under the drivers's dash. I have one already selected; I just have to wait to buy it until I actually need it. I can take a down payment on a job to pay for the controller.
    Thanks for mentioning it though, it is one of those things that is easy to miss or forget.
