...so I got one. After trading my Tundra for the Tacoma I really missed the comfort and ride of a fullsize so I decided I had to have another one. I don't like the styling or mpg,s on the new Tundra so since I had 3 Chevy trucks and 2 GMC's in the past that were really reliable I decided to go with Chevy again. I've put 1300 miles on it so far and am pretty impressed with it. I am averaging 21 mpg,s (hand calculated) and hopefully it will get a little better when the truck is broken in more. The Tacoma was a great truck but it feels good to be back in a fullsize.

Nice truck. When I was looking for a new truck I was between a tacoma and a ecoboost f150. I ended up going with the tacoma beacuse it was cheaper, but I still kind of kick myself for not getting the f150. Might see how things go over then next two years or so then try and trade in.

So you're saying a heavily modded truck is better off road than a stock truck? That's amazing! You should contact the news crews and let them know of your discovery so they can get the word out. Seriously though, let me see you pull the trailers that they pull and then I will be impressed.

I drove 1/2 tons from 1977-2007 when I traded a 2002, 4X4, F-150 Supercrew for a comparable 2007 Tacoma. At the time I have no doubts I did the right thing. The Tacoma gets about 3-4 mpg better fuel mileage than the 02 Ford and after 172,000 miles that small difference adds up. Especially when gas was $3.50-$4.00/gal. It has been bulletproof with very few repairs and nothing that wouldn't be expected for the miles.

But that was 9 years ago, my needs have changed and I went looking at 1/2 tons too. It came down to trading the Tacoma for a new truck, or keeping the Tacoma as a 3rd vehicle and buying a used truck. The out of pocket difference for me was going to be almost exactly the same. After 2 months of looking I finally found a good deal on a 2014 4X4 F-150 Supercrew with only 17,000 miles and just kept the Taco. I opted for the 5.0 V-8 over the 3.5 Turbo.

Had the prices been close I wouldn't have minded the 3.5. But here is only 1 mpg difference in fuel mileage and the 3.5's command about $1500 more on the used market. Even the 5.0 will match the Tacoma's fuel mileage. While the 3.5 will pull more weight on paper if properly equipped. I found NONE on the used market that had the right gearing or payload packages to significantly out perform the 5.0 V-8. It'll easily tow anything I'll ever pull and at 1 mpg difference $1500 will buy a lot of gas.

    ...^^^... Nice looking truck.

I went from mid-size ... to full size ... and back to mid-size.

I loved the ride & safety of my Tundra ... but it was very difficult to park in parking garages & parking lots.

Good luck with your new ride ... it is a good looking truck.

I would actually pay MORE for the 5.0 over the 3.5 E/B.

I am too old fashioned ... and just can't get into winding up a little 3.5 that much in a big truck.

That 5.0 and the aluminum body make that truck sweet.

Mine doesn't have the aluminum body. 2014 was the last year of steel body panels. But I like the truck. I could have had a brand new truck, but only of I traded the 07 Tacoma. It was worth buying a 2 year old used truck to be able to keep the trusted Tacoma as a spare vehicle.

I would like to have a nice 1980 to early 1990's Toyota 4x4 as a toy but for daily driving the fullsize just feels right. For the days when I want that rugged, old school truck feel my 1987 GMC Jimmy does it for me.
