Really poor mileage on 2017 TRD OR MT?

I have been consistently getting below 13 MPG on my daily drives. I don't think it's the meter's inaccuracy either because the car has 500 miles on it, and I filled the tank up 3 times.

I thought it might be my "heavy" foot, but even driving slowly and up-shifting quickly hasn't really made much of a difference while it does help (from 11MPG to around 14). This is mostly city driving.

On the freeway I tend to get around 14.8 MPG. This seems really out-of-line with what I have been seeing other people get in their cars. Is this a common problem? Or is it because the OR comes with slight larger tires?

Has anyone else with a MT experienced this?

500 miles is not broken in imho but agree that sounds way low - mind, my truck is a 13 auto - but still.

Wow that sucks, mine has about 1500 miles now and has averaged a solid 20 MPGs since day 1.

There isn't a break-in needed for most modern engines.

OP, try to go for a drive next weekend in the burbs or on a 2lane highway ~50mph (for some miles). Report back if it doesn't improve.

On quick trips around town for me it will avg 10-14 mpg. It starts to even out and bump up after some highway time.

Note: this doesn't work if you drive it like you stole it

Yeah I've got about 1200 on my '17 TRD Sport and I get about 19.5 mpg average at the moment. Depends on when I reset the meter and all as well. Mine is also an AT so I would think you may have another issue going on. I'd say take it to Toyota but may need to check your diff for weeping or leaking and decide rather you'd want to have your Taco impounded until they fix the diff issue. But the gas mileage would probably be enough I'd take the chance.

Got over 20 mpg when I brought mine home when I bought it. That was about a 90 mile trip. Had an average of 21.8 yesterday on a 300 mile round trip. Mine is a 2016 6MT.

It should reset after each fill up right? Unless there is some manual way to reset it that I've not seen.

The best MPGs the trip meter on the dash ever spit out at me was 25.4 on a 26 mile trip.

These trucks are not known for great gas mileage but that's pretty fucking pathetic if I do say so myself. Maybe something more to this issue here.

If he's doing strict city driving and dives aggressively, that's not out of the realm of possibility.

That's why I'd like him to drive around in the burbs or sticks for a hundred miles and report back. If it's still dogshit, I'd take it in.

I drive it rough with 32's, a RTT and rack and live at 6k. I get 17 over the first 2500 miles so far.

Check for fuel leaks. It's been known to happen on the Turd gen.

I never go over 2500rpm in any gear and watch my mileage gauge religiously. If I use hypermilling techniques I can get it up to about 22-23 mpg for trips to work which is 20 miles each way with 20% city and 80% highway driving.
