So my rear shocks are blown and I haul a lot for work so I wanted to go air ride. Any ideas of an easy install set up? I got a 2004 Tacoma prerunner double cab 5ft bed. I would like one where I can control it with a remote and has an air compressor in it and such. I haul on average about 400-600 pounds 3 days a week. It’s 260,000 miles on it so it’s definitely old.

Edit: I should add that I have recently put fox 2.0 in the front and I have billsteins in the back from the previous owner, but I’m not sure how old they are.

I am sure with some research You can find something that will work.

There is a huge difference between Air Ride Suspension and Air bags to supplement your leaf springs Air bags instead of extra Heavy Duty Springs or a Helper spring set up.

If I understand you want a air ride suspension just scaled down to fit your Tacoma ?

New Shocks set up to your air ride suspension would most likely be needed.

Are you just looking for air bags to supplement your leaf springs ?

I was thinking of keeping the old leaf springs and just going with Icon shocks with air bags to help it when it sags. But I’m new to this so I want to make sure I buy the right stuff. Also, do you have any rear shock recommendations that don’t require leaf springs to go with it?

Very hard to know without the suspension travel information.

Just how you need to locate and mount your shocks also effects things.

I often carry around 700 lbs. OME Dakars with the extra leaf, nitro chargers and the Firestone airbags (with cradles not connected) fit the bill just perfectly for me. I just use a bike bump to pump the bags up when needed.

1000 pounds never really bothered my heavy duty springs with my super springs .

I have Ride Rite airbags. Install was relatively easy. I also use a bicycle pump to adjust pressure when needed.

Just how much pressure do you need to raise the suspension with 1000 pounds of weight??

How long does it take ?

I have air bags in my Tacoma. Originally, I used a bike pump but it got really old. Since you're doing this so often, a dedicated compressor would be really nice to have. Mine is mounted behind the driver's side rear seat. The gauge and switch are mounted under the arm rest.

I bought this compressor somewhere else other than Amazon and saved quite a bit on it. Sorry I don't remember where I bought it.

I rarely tow anything with mine. I primarily use it when I put my camper and roof top tent on. I have once towed a short distance with an 8000lb trailer. I was getting gravel, and they put way more than I asked for. The truck handled fine, I wasn't going very fast.

Shit, I am not sure. I actually use them for towing my trailer with camping/hunting equipment on it.

I roll unloaded with about 6.5 psi on them (5 is min. according to instructions).

To get to over 15 (my gauge only goes to 15), I usually only need 10-ish strokes on the pump (giggity). It goes fast!

I usually hook the trailer up, drag to a level spot, and pump-to-level. Never weighed my tongue weight, so I cannot say how much I have on there (but gotta be 500-600 lbs). I try to put most of my load (giggity) over the trailer axles, but make the tongue weight heavy enough that I cannot easily lift it alone. Tows fine.

I have been known to stop roadside and adjust where I have things on the trailer if I feel sway or light steering. It's a balancing act to get it right. Too much tongue weight is better than too light for me.

Agree...if changing pressures often, I would get a dedicated on-board air system.

How much did the set up run you?

I spent roughly $1500 on all of it. Got everything from toytec out of Denver, CO. Shipping wasn't even that bad. $100 for shipping of all of it. I had a few extras. Extended brake line, greasable shackles. Did all the work myself so that saved me about the same I bet. Also - I ordered one of those load proportioning valve extenders as the lift pushed it up some. About 3" of lift I would say or right under that. Chopped my exhaust off on the end as well as it interfered with the new leaf packs.
