I launched some jet skis 3 days ago and the tide was low so had to submerge until back tires were completely under(back doors were slightly under as well). Completely stock 2011 Tacoma. It was a lake so no salt water. I’ve heard of issues with the rear diff getting wet and want to know what it would be/look/sound like if there was an issue? I’ve drove since then and no issues with anything, just want to make sure and prevent something catastrophic from happening. Thank you in advance!

Running it with some water in the rear diff. for a couple days won’t damage it. Over a period of time you would have problems. You need to drain the rear differential fluid and replace it with fresh. If it’s milky I’d probably drain it again in a few days or a week. I would not wait to do this. You should also install a rear diff. breather tube to avoid problems in the future. I wouldn’t be concerned that there is any damage as long as you replace the fluid soon.

water tends to want to go where it should Not !!

depends on how many times U launch a season

U would do well to check rear brakes.........seals ........bearings

water might enter outer wheel bearings or thru the diff vent

check diff lube sticking a plastic tube into diff fill hole

    bottom the plastic tubing out

put thumb over open end................. ( tubing should be full o fluid )..........remove

U should see ONLY GOOD DIFF FLUID !!!!

anything else ( milk shake lookin crap ). DRAIN & refill !!!
