It sounds like the dealer is working with you, just not listening to you. Hell, let them continue to replace drivetrain parts! If you’d rather not deal with a dealer again, you can get a Dorman axle, bearing and backing plate already completely assembled for like $400. All you have to do is remove the parking brake cable, disconnect the brake line, remove 4 nuts and pull. Can have it done in an hour. The only thing this won’t fix is a bent axle shaft…which is still a possibility.

I thought this wobble goblin issue was fixed? This dealer must be an idiot, if they can't find a bent alxe, or an associated part. I swear if the problems with these trucks aren't listed in their data base, these tech's are lost.

wouldn't the dorman axle have the axle shaft connected to it? or are you talking about the axle housing?

apparently, they think it's fine. i told them to measure the runout of the axle shaft or flange but i don't think they want to take it apart. doesn't explain the howling noise when turning right or the wobble in the hub though.

The howling is standard issue on these trd tacoma's....you're not change extra. The wobble has to go. Doesn't require a genius to check the axle shaft for runout.

I’m in Virginia as well. Pm me the name of this dealer so I know to stay away. I can deal with a lot of crap but not being listened to when its my money I can’t.

apparently they don't even have average intelligence at the toyota dealership. or they just don't care to tackle complex issues. unless i'm wrong...

they are now trying to say my tire is out of round. discount tire says it's good. but the spare wobbles too....

From your description of this, it sure sounds like a tweaked axle after eliminating the wheel with the spare still having the same issue. You could lift the other side tire, and see if it has the same amount of runout, or not to confirm the axle is bad. Its not complex to replace an axle.

brought it back to discount tire and they say the tire is perfect but the manager showed me the wheel on the balancing machine and it is bent very slightly. One of my hubcaps fell off when I first got the tires mounted so he offered to either pay me $20 for a new hubcap or he would order me a new wheel (used, OEM, reconditioned, $144) and mount the tire again for free. He went above and beyond to help me out. Thanks Discount Tire Wilmington!

can't believe the dealership missed a bent wheel when I brought it in for "wheel wobble". at least i got a new differential out of it.

Fact is, I can't believe you missed it either, claiming your spare looked the same when replaced.

Tires installed on the wheel are rarely perfect when spun. You're always going to see a little runout. Its when the wheel itself mounted on the axle there should be no runout thats visible.

the axle flange itself has some runout. guess the flange is bent or bad bearing or a combination of the two. once i get a gauge to measure it i will post a video. working 6 days in a row right now so a bit tired.

From my experience with my gen1 tundra's bent axle, and wheel combo, they replaced the bearing also. Imo, the bearing was likely still ok, but the truck had 90k some miles on it.

yea, i would definitely want the bearing replaced as well as the shaft. i emailed ECGS. maybe they can help me out since I'm within driving distance of their shop.

are there any aftermarket axle shafts available? Or should I stick with OEM?

got a video of the runout today. right side, no runout. left side, slight wobble.

you can probably see how they missed it unless they used a guage...
