Not sure which axle shafts he has in his, but @nfs257 twisted the splines on one of his.

Whats the deal'eo with the Tundra axle approach? Seems like a good option for strength, wider stance and possible compatibility?
I don't know any of the details-which is why I'm following along here...Who's got thoughts?
Anthony DTF? I know you had a few sets for sale; can you chime in?

    Tundra info would be cool.

I haven't got too far on this one yet. I like the expensive options and the cheaper choices haven't jumped out at me yet... lots of good info, hard to nail down.

I actually picked up a free GTI that needs some work. In the middle of fixing that right now so that I can then take the truck down and do some serious work to it. So kinda on hold and still driving it daily for now haha.

Had some free time tonight. I have always wanted to make one, maybe now is the time haha. See if I can make a sweet 2nd gen Tacoma axle... Started playing around with Solidworks to get a start on what it would be to make it. Pretty simple design really. A 7 parts from 3/16" plate, one from 3/8" plate and some 3.5" tubes. Maybe add a truss. Material wouldn't be too bad of a price but after welding the face would need servicing and the housing straightend if it tweaked at all during welding. A solid weld fixture and a slow welding process could eliminate most of the movement. Not sure this will ever get made but a fun thought experiment. Maybe give it a test run if I find some spare time.

Picked up an e-locker diff housing from @DTFtacoma yesterday for a great price. So I will be swapping that on for now. But I don't plan on leaving that one in there for the long term, I still want a better solution.

Saw Anthony's Tundra rear end in his Tacoma. Its big and wide, granted he is on 37" projects so that adds to the wide appearance haha. He told me it does require work to mount, but all the speed and abs sensors from the Tundra rear end work on his truck. You also have to re-drill the flanges for the Tacoma wheels. It would be a big project to get running but it's a big housing and looked perfect under the truck! I need to double check the actual width of those housings and see how they match my build plans.

Some info for anyone looking to do the Tundra swap. There is a thread on it, but I got some info that may help someone. The rear axles and rotors can be plug welded and redrilled. Talked to a company in LA that has been having success with a couple trucks doing this.

I destroyed my 3rd in my truck over the weekend. So I am gunna have to solve this problem soon. The more I learn about the Tundra rear housing the more I like it. I have also learned of companies like LSK that build full floater housings that use the Tundra 3rd member. It's big, has disk brakes and is super strong. Also the perfect width (72" WMS) for trucks with a +2 or +3.5 front suspension. I am pretty sure I will start with a Tundra axle, get it redrilled and re geared. Then go from there.

That is the other option... But $2K for the housing, then I need a 9" third... That is what $3500 with an ARB air locker... So $6K all said and done with taxes and stuff... and that is factory Tacoma drum brakes.

The Tundra has disc brakes, the width is perfect for my soon to be equipped +3 kit. Has a bigger 10.5" ring gear and has 36 spline axles. Can find one for $600-$1000. Redrill is $450, ARB is $1200 and regear is $750. So on the high end, $3400.

i have a tundra rear end sitting in my garage wait to be installed actually started stripping her down today. my 2nd gen is long traveled so the 4in of width is perfect. so i can keep yall posted as i go threw this swap. i also have a package arriving tomorrow that has tundra front wheel bearing assemblys for 5 lug swap, slotted and drilled rotors and calipers so i will be 5 lug swapped on tundta rolling gear, i am designing my own spindles for this as custom spindles are kinda rear out there for a decent price so with in 2 months should have most of this done if yall are intested give some feedback and ill make a thread out of it

The 2nd gen Tundra stuff is all quite beefy, as it's based on the Land Cruiser 200 Series. The 9.5" diff and axle housing will be a great base to build off of for a Taco. The 9.5 diff, which comes on the non-5.7L Tundra and Land Cruiser 200, received upgrades in 1998 and then again around 2006 which gives the current offerings larger axle shafts and a larger pinion spline. I have tons of info I can share about them, just ask.

With Tundra and Currie you keep the same ABS stuff. The more I think about it I may end up the currie route...
