Tried looking, but was a fruitless search.

Currently grinding the ever-loving-hell out of my passenger side rear bearing. Doing some reading it seems like it required the axle to be removed and the bearing pressed back in. Anyone with a little more knowledge able to chime in as to what is required to do this. Worth it to do it myself or is this going to be better off on a lift at a mechanics shop?

Those of you who know me know I don't mind ripping my truck apart, fucking up, posting my escapades on here and finally getting it right a week later. Fairly competent shade tree mechanic. Good access to BFH's.

You can do it yourself without a press but it sucks. After you get the axle out and the snap ring off, put down a chunk of plywood (or something to keep the splines from getting damaged) and slam the shaft into the ground. After about 15 hits the brake backing plate and shoe assembly will start sliding off. A lot of dudes just build their own "SST" using the bolt pattern off the axle housing to make a template and welding a 2" piece of tubing to it. Look at the pics in the manual and see what I mean- http://www.customtacos.com/tech.old.../06toyrm/06toypdf/06rmsrc/rm2006ta/038003.pdf Don't forget to also get new seals! For the axle seal especially only use OEM!

Yup. Just make sure when you reinstall the new bearings, that you install them with the matching side's drum plate.

If you mix them up, your ABS sensor will not line up properly..........trust me, I know. Toyota messed mine up.
