Good afternoon! I replaced my rear drums and shoes and hardware a few weeks ago on my 2002 4x4 taco. Shoes were getting thin, wasn’t having issues at the time just wanted to get them replaced. After getting all the work done I noticed a pulsating while
Braking. I read some posts from folks on here and believed I got some warped drums .. I pulled the parking brake and still noticed the pulsating so that pointed me to the drums or shoes. I had the drums replaced by the manufacturer and threw the new ones on. Still pulsating!! So frustrating. Should I look into something else or should I try a different make of drums. I ordered the power stop coated drums and power stop shoes and hardware from rock auto. They had no issue sending me new drums of the same make. Any advice will help! Didn’t have any issues before replacing shoes and drums

Have you made sure that there's no rust or foreign material on the mating surface of the drum and hub and that they are mating together correctly?

If the rear brakes were improperly adjusted then the front disc brakes are braking too much causing excessive heat and brake disc warpage. I would want to rule out the front brakes for excessive vibration.

I’ll pull them off and check again for any issues. Front brakes are brand new as well. And it pulsates with the parking brake when I lightly apply it around 25-35 mph. I went power stop cause I haul our motorcycles and just wanted a quality product and they had good reviews.

Have the drums checked for warp by a brake shop.
Drums can be trued by turning on a brake lathe.
Warped NEW drums is a common occurrence.

Thanks guys. Took the drums to Oriellys to turn them and the guy said “how the hell is a brand new drum this warped?” The second set I wasn’t able to take off and have them check it but I’m sure it’s the same deal. Hopefully the third time with a different make is the charm

rotors get warped, to be more precise they get an accumulation of brake pad material, drums get “out of round”

I had the same thing happen with aftermarket rotors from the same place. It was ferocious. Vibration was so bad. I took them back and made the decision from then on it was Toyota parts all the time. First set of OEM was silky smooth.

Yep I learned the hard way. After 2 sets from rock auto I went and got some Toyota drums and they are nice and smooth. Very frustrating experience.
