I changed them because they’ve been squeaking for a while. Toyota service center said they needed to be replaced for $500 per axle. And I have to tow a trailer Monday. So thought I would just knock it out myself no problem.
I did try settling them by pulling the hand brake from a stop a few times with no change unfortunately.
I know it’s not the best picture but i took this before installing new drums as well. I did the same for both sides. But the driver’s side just doesn’t seem to be lining up. 3D5246CA-20A4-4360-9E92-4F4F328050B3.jpgI can get better pictures of my handy work tomorrow too.

Those don’t look like they needed replacing. The front brakes on these trucks do most of the work. It’s not uncommon to go well beyond 100k on the factory rear brakes. Some people can get over 100k on the original front pads if they drive gently. I traded my 07 in at 12 years old with 87k miles on the original rear shoes/drums even with a lot of towing. It was on its third set of front brake pads and second set of rotors. I pulled the drums several times and the rear shoes always looked good and had plenty of friction material left.

Just wanted to update to say thank you to everyone that took the time to offer me advice. The brakes are fixed lol. The shoes were installed incorrectly. (On the wrong side of the back plate). :anonymous:Which is also why they were wearing uneven as you can see in my first picture I posted. I’m learning and hopefully this can help someone else troubleshoot theirs too. thanks guys :hattip:

So it was on the wrong side of the stamped portion of the backing plate? Pics would help someone else that might stumble upon this in the future.

Very cool Sir. We've all done it, one way or another. At least you came back and told us about it. Thanks for that.
