My rear brakes make a slight whining noise at low speed under light pressure. It doesnt do it under medium to heavy pressure or at speeds of 8+ mph. Does this mean they're ready to be replaced or am I just hearing a little bit of friction?

I know most disc brakes will squeal when theyre ready to be swapped but do drums do the same?

May need to be cleaned and adjusted. If they are noisey, have them checked. Drum brakes do not have squeel tabs.

I had the same problem....took it in to Toyota the other day....they did a clean and adjust on rear brakes...light squeal went away for the second time...I am convinced now it is brake dust from initial braking and I will do a clean and adjust every 5k versus 10k recommended.

I had this light squeal from the passenger side drum at low speed as well. After a good cleaning with CRC it has subsided.
