So I had the rumble strip vibration which seemed like warped rear drums. Took it to Toyota and supposedly my truck (TRDOR) isn't covered under the tsb. Today I measured my flanges myself because they "couldn't duplicate the symptoms." It seems like they're out of spec, I took care measuring on centerline and on a few occasions came up with a little over 4.24 inches which is out of spec. I initially thought it was warped drums like I mentioned, so I purchased new ones in hopes that was it. Now to my issue, I still get the rumble strip / pulsation, but now it seems to be accompanied by a clicking, clacking, rhythmic sound. Definitely coming from the left rear. I looked at the drums, springs, adjuster etc and everything seems in place. Anything I'm missing that anyone can think of. This has me a bit perplexed. TIA Tacoma brothers.

I thought the same thing, but it turned out to be the rear axle. It was like .2mm out of spec or something, I'll try to find the writeup the tech did. Replaced under warranty, and gone are the rumbles.

What are you symptoms? Does "rumble strip vibration" mean a vibration while driving down the road, or when applying the brakes?

It is difficult to see exactly where you are measuring the pilot flange on the axle, but I think if you are trying to measure where the drum centers on the axle, you need to measure further inboard.
I have seen many pilot flange/wheel combos and have never seen a pilot flange cause a problem (assuming no physical damage). I think it more likely a bent axle or wheel, or bad tire. I would look in those areas first.

Even on a pro eh? Supposedly the tsb only applies to no TRD trucks so it's hard to get them to just dove in on the labor. It'd be nice to see the write-up

Vibration/pulsing only upon brake activation. I know it's rears because I can use ebrake to replicate. There's a step machined on the flange that's the largest diameter, that's where I'm measuring. Interestingly enough, I just got new rims and tires and problem persisted. My biggest issue is what's causing the clacking. In my head I can't imagine what it is? Brake shoes momentarily gaining friction then letting off causing them to kind of jerk? The noise did get worse with aftermarket drums so maybe I'll swap back before my camp trip.

Also, here's a pic of the procedure and spec.

you better check your rear diff fluid. It says "gear oilLX85 (1L) QTY 1". When I had rear diff warranty work on the carrier assembly, the gear oil was "QTY 4" for 4 liters. hopefully it's just a typo and they filled with 4 liters, but you never know. Even at "QTY 4" it still took another 1 liter once I was home to get the oil to he bottom of the fill hole.
