    HELP,

I’m having a lot of trouble ordering a replacement rear bumper for my 2nd Gen SR5. I really want to order a color matched replacement bumper (or a black one if no MGM color matched are available), BUT every single site I’ve searched through specifies that they are for non-SR5 models. I ordered a black replacement bumper last year and it didn’t fit my truck, the body lines were way off. What am I missing here? Any advice is greatly appreciated

depending on the condition your bumper Bumpershellz might be an option. Installed it on my 07 couple years ago to cover the chrome and it's held up great. Also, you can get it color matched.

Appreciate it man, but I need to replace the whole bumper. I’ve considered bumpershellz on a new bumper but the cost is excessive. There are so many options for black and paint matched bumpers but they all say not for SR5 models which is so confusing.

Isn't the SR5 the chrome package? Non-SR5 probably just means black. I'd think you'll just have to get a shop to paint one to match.

I put a used bumper on mine a while back. I just re-painted it black myself. Also I had to bend it bit get the lines to where I liked them. I just put it on a log and gently gave it a little downward pressure. Good Luck!

The SR5 offers similar transmission and engine options as the SR. However, it is more stylish than the base model, with fog lights and additional exterior chrome. It also has a remote keyless entry system, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, and an 8-inch touchscreen for audio control.

My 07 has the SR5 emblem on tailgate with all the above except the 8" touch screen. On the original window sticker there's no mention of SR5... the above items are listed under TRD Offroad Package.

this is definitely where I’m leaning at this point. Rough up the chrome with a DA sander, etch, prime, and paint.

what did you paint yours with and what steps did you take to prep it?

The one I bought was black to begin with. I sanded it and use Rust-Oleum Flat Black. I found a Bumper Hitch and Bumper bar combo for $100 up here on the marketplace. I had to drive an hour but it was worth it.

Good info…my 2008 SR5 bumper is on borrowed time…rust below the chrome will be visible in a year or two.

If you specify "SR5" package in the search params or the parts site figures it out when you enter the VIN, I believe you'll get the chrome bumper every time. Specify "Sport" or "Pro" or whichever trucks had the color-keyed bumpers, and I think you used to be able to pick a color-keyed one from the list: just the like grille surround. A good trick is to find a VIN out there on CarMax etc on a Tacoma year with the color-keyed bumper as part of its equipment, and use it to search for the correct part number.

I did this to get a Super White grille for my SR5 chrome surround and a couple of other pieces specific to a particular trim package. I wouldn't wait too long if you want an OEM one. 2nd gen trucks are getting old now and I see many "NLA's" on the Toyota parts sites now.

Is that cover just held on by adhesive tape? I didn't see any install instructions on that website.

It has a lip that goes underneth the black plastic parts on the bumper and the outside edges are secured with 3m tape. Install on a warm day to help form the part around the curves/contours.
