So do you have to disassemble the bumbper to get the caps off? I am debating on wether to just dip them on the truck or take them off.

Thank you. I think I'll just go ahead and pull them off to dip them. I'm worried I won't get good coverage if I leave them on.

Removed the chrome covers and plasti-dipped them today. Satisfied with the outcome for sure. Clips fell out when I took off the caps and I didn't even attempt to reinsert them when putting them back in. Holding just fine without them.

I have a black Tacoma and I can’t stand the chrome rear bumper. I like how yours looks. I was thinking about ordering a set of these. How much $$$

I just ordered the same bumper caps from Rock Auto. They were the "black" ones right? I couldn't tell from the pictures if it was matte black or painted black.

My TRDOR came with the chrome bumper caps ... It's a little tricky the first time you remove them cause there are a couple of push pin style fasteners under the caps. There are some really helpful you tube videos on how to remove them. Painting them was easy although I had the paint shop mix the silver. The guy said his metallic was slightly larger than Toyota's and it was. If you didn't know they were repainted, you probably wouldn't notice the difference. I'm very particular but fairly satisfied with the results. As far as the painting process, be sure to scuff the chrome thoroughly with an automotive Scotch Brite pad. Wipe them down with a non-oil cleaner and you'll probably see you need to scuff some more. I used a self-etching gray primer in a spray can. Apply a tack coat first... after it flashes, about 10 - 15 minutes, apply another light coat that should almost cover the chrome and wait for it to flash. Flash time will depend on temperature and humidity ... at 70 degrees, I'll wait about 20 to 30 minutes. A third light coat will cover almost completely. The forth light and final primer coat will cover any areas that you may have missed getting a complete cover. The spray can should have just enough paint to perform this process. I then used a low pressure gun and applied the silver base the same way as the primer. Three light coats should be adequate. Be sure to allow each coat to flash. After the final coat of silver and a 30 minute wait time, I used the low pressure gun to apply three coats of clear. Again, use light coats for the first two then a cover coat on the last... A HEAVY OR THICK WILL PROBABLY CAUSE RUNS AND YOU'LL HAVE TO STRIP THE CAPS DOWN AND START ALL OVER... and that would really suck. There are probably You Tube videos on all of this but YES the chrome caps can be painted with permanent results.
