Rear camera relocate

has anyone relocated their rear camera so you can view while tailgate down? I have a couple ideas, but would like to hear what you guys my have done in case I'm missing something.

 

I did but mine is relocated to my Tiregate on the top bar.

@Unchained 5150 Hey, old thread but I am looking at the same set up for my 2018 DCLB. Do you like this set up? Was there other parts needed?

 

I'm not sure if that camera mount will work on the 3rd Gen

Ah I could tell you if it works if you have a oic of the camera in the Tailgate.

 

It will work, when you buy the bracket it comes with both kinds of brackets that are known to be used on the Tacomas. Have their relocate bracket on my truck.

 

How about we just tag @Pelfreybilt and ask if the camera relocate works with the 3rd Gens

It sure does work on the 3rd gen!

Due to Toyota camera manufacturing variations, there appears to be at least two different cameras on the Tacoma’s. Pelfreybilt includes both styles with your order, to allow you to choose the best fit for your camera. It doesn't fit. The two screw holes on the backside of the camera do not line up with the mounting plate. I had to use a dremel to make it work. It's off by just enough to make it a PIA. The other thing that is a PIA is the short camera harness, kinda limits options for choosing your own mounting location on the swing out. I have a 2018 Double Cab btw.

 

They may have just changed it for the 2018 as we have never had one mounting issue from the 2005 Tacoma until just now. But we have had a 2018 Tacoma use the camera and it worked so it may be possible that they did a mid year redesign this year

 

@Unchained 5150 how did you install your license plate light? I have the exact same tire mount and plate location as yours but don't know where to connect the light.

 

It's wired into the trailer hitch connector for power, and it comes as a bracket that users the top 2 holes of the license plate bolts
