My 08 rugged trail started to do the same thing. Surface rust. I used a bit of never dull and chrome polish and it hasn't come back. Might be worth a try if you get no satisfaction at the dealer.

I took mine to the dealer for the rusty bumper they said the outside surface needed to pit before toyota would replace it. My bumper is rusting from the inside out. The inside looks terrible. Ohh well I will just stop taking care of the bumper I have a 10 months left on the factory warrenty.

ooohhhh god I'm scared to see what my '10 will look like after its first Pennsylvania winter this year. I was hoping that Toyota took care of this for the 2010 models but apparently the didn't :(

I am having the same issue and my dealer is using a bit of a cop out. We have tonnes of gravel put on the roads up here in combination with salt. My bumper looks like a 14 year old pimple faced kid. It sucks but they claim that since the rust is caused by rock chips its not cover. I am going to go and start fighting them on it because I have some really nasty rust spots forming by the driver and passenger windows also due to the wonderful gravel on the roads....

FUNNY you guys should mention this i was reading the post about this because i have a sport but need to do a trade in for four door due to im having a child and need the space.. I went to a dealership to look at a new 2011 off road with chrome bumper and lets just say thats why im reading these pots. The chrome was a joke i wouldnt even buy it it had a somewhat acceptable plating on the outside however one the concave sections that bend it right before the licence plate it wasnt even a chrome finish i could almost consider it STEEL RATHER THAN CHROME!!!
I even tried to rub it down myself and notheing even had rough surface. I have alot of love for toyota but i really hope their not going down that same road like all the other great automotive companys before them. SHAME ON YOU TOYOTA, saying your working on the problem dont you daRE GET CHEAP NOT TO MENTION THAT PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A NEW FRONT GRILL. sorry to get off track guys

I recall reading about Hemi's rusty bumper over a year ago on his 2010. Many people gave him grief for complaining, now look where we are at.

The way I see it if a bumper is rusty it should be replaced ad infinitum until the problem ceases or warranty expires.

Same with my 08 OR DC. A few spots of the bumper and side step tubes. Not to mention serious carbon on the fancy exhaust tip. Eagle one never dull shined it right up.
