Interesting that you guy have pulled this off.

I’m looking to get a rear high clearance bumper and the ones I like won’t work with the bsm, and was wondering if I can relocate the sensors.
My driveway is like backing out of a tunnel, so I find it helpful.

Try this thread: Relocating the BSM to Tail Lights | Tacoma World
It hasn't been completed yet, but some interesting info.

    What Toycoma2021 said...
    Obvious, but I'll say it:
Try to avoid wiring harness modification but, if necessary, reworking the loom is preferred to splicing wires (CAN bus issue).
Make note of the physical alignment of each module in three axis before and after.
Use the same flat location, same tools (level, protractor, etc.).
Make careful note of the BSM field of view in action before. The CTA alignment is much less critical.

Let us know how it works out for you.

The module alignment is all done from the face of the module; with the face vertical and the angle 40 degrees from the rear or 50 degrees from the side IIRC, it is in a thread somewhere. I will be measuring mine when I take them off just to be sure. What I have not been able to discern is just what the radiation pattern of the modules is (Do they need a 180-degree clear field of view?) and if they can be flipped. Radiation pattern is paramount as to not get any metal in the way. As they are originally installed the wiring connector is towards the outside or front of the vehicle. Could they be flipped with the wiring connector towards the center line of the vehicle - this would make placement of them easier in the rear light housing as the above thread is trying to do.

Take note: By module alignment I mean the physical alignment, not the calibration alignment.

BSM appears to be directional, that is, alerts when vehicle approaches from rear but not when you overtake.
If so, the orientation would make a difference.

The "operation" is directional, but that could be all in the software.

    Physically:
The modules are identical, and they are already flipped from right to left making up and down certainly interchangeable. Take the left module where the top is facing the sky and the bottom is facing the ground, then move the module to the right-hand side of the vehicle and what was looking at the sky is now facing the ground. I wish I knew if these identical modules are used in other vehicles and if they keep the same orientation as on the Tacoma? The modules I have are made by a Deutsch company called Continental.

It is my understanding the modules need the ground reference to function properly. That is just something I picked up around here somewhere don't know how true it is. During calibration only one module is calibrated at a time with the TechStream software possibly determining all positions and directions: up, down, right and left. Looks like I will have to fudge a mounting swap and calibration using the geometry of the original mounts and some wiring harness extensions (8"-12") once I truly start on the bumper project.

This picture is of the interior board that faces the rear of the vehicle. The board's large side faces the wiring connector. I don't see too much difference from side to side and up and down.
