Is that what the gawd-awful loud tick is? I should post a vid, it is out of control. My wife is always asking me if all the noises the truck makes are normal.
    1. Whining diff (she has that one figured out...)
    2. Ticking whining blower fan (silenced with the third blower fan)
    3. Whining wiper motor assembly (also cured with the third assembly)
    4. Creaking driver's seat (who the hell knows....)
    5. Motor ticking, very loud. (Why can't Toyota shut this up, it's unacceptable, if a domestic tics this loud, they tear it down!)
What puts me off so much about this one, is is sounds cheap. My GM work truck, which has a VERY hard life, at 174 000kms does not make any stupid sounds! (I still hate GM though...)
    6. Squeeking leaf springs.....
    7. Random loud rattleing - Oh wait, the dealer forgot to tighten the driveshaft bearing bolts on diff replace #4, the driveshaft is falling out.......Towed back to the dealer

As for the OP's diff issues, I would assume a bent housing, but since they have to date not solved my issue, and instead prefer to do regular ring & pinion replacements, as well as rusty bumper replacements, I will return it at the end of the lease with all of it's rust and noises and problems.
The 8.4" diffs are pretty stout, and there is definitly and issue to get resolved before the warranty ends.

So, now that I own a Toyota "OFF ROAD" model, a run throught the mud constitutes a beating. Hmm. This is really pathetic, as it was nothing I have not done to previous trucks, dozens of times each year, for years. But the Tacoma goes pop on the 3rd stuck. I happen to own 80 acres, and if spinning through mud is abuse, then this is a pethetic excuse for a truck.
    Simple.
Spinning in mud is normal for us actual truck users.
And the panzy that said I was abusing, was one of those "come to an off road event to take pictures", types, the only mud on his truck was from an errant roost.
I stand by my assessment, based on my ownership of 6 prior trucks, and the 174 000kms hard kms I put on my overloaded work truck, it was "normal usage", and that is likely why Toyota keeps throwing parts at it, with nary a word of cristicism.

You were so positive on here last year, it is so bad that you got a lemon! Sorry for the unusual bad experiences!!

Yeah OP I'd ask them to replace the whole damn rear axle. It's like that definition of insanity ... doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. Well I'd say you're there. And whatever the dealer is doing isn't working. Demand the entire assembly ... housing, axle shafts, bearings, the works ... be replaced. And if they won't do that, then demand a free extended warranty to 7yrs. Because you know it will just happen again .. and it shouldn't be on your dime.

Thanks again gents. I'll keep you posted.

Now I'll have to try and get them to fix the axle wrap.

It feels like its coming from the back end... but it doesn't happen every time, but about 70% of the time.
The clunk happens right before the truck comes to a complete start... then a another (smaller) clunk happens when I press the gas to accelerate again.

Its kind of hard to pin point exactly... but after looking into the whole axle wrap thing... it looks like I am another victim.

I didn't let the dealer cut off the bottom of my accelerator, or install the new throttle overide software, and my truck "suddenly accelerated" into the mud. Not my fault ;-)
