rear diff drop?strange rub noise

Just put on a 3 inch lift with add aleaf got a wierd noise read on the forum about some one shimming the rear diff and int fixed it but did they mean the rear diff or the rear of the front diff the diff drop only seems to drop the front of it. the noises sound like there coming from the front. help me please

 

what type of lift for front..... spacers, or coils

This is what I have in the rear, under the block is the diff shim



Here is the front diff. drop and skid plate drop. Diff is Round and on the left skid is square and on the right in the picture.


I also have the one for the hanger bearing


This was a toytec lift with drops.

 

I have pretty much the same setup without the shims. could the tires be rubbing on the uca? I still have a slight shimmy on the driveshaft on takeoff, smooth everywhere else..

 

I rarely ever notice a shudder when taking off but it does happen. You still have the stock rims so it is a possibility that your tires rub your control arms. If I'm not mistaken there is a 4" backspace on your factory rims as opposed to aftermarket being 4.5" to avoid the rubbing.

Less backspacing means the wheels sit out more, correct?

 

Yes, that is my understanding. It moves the center of the rim to the inside of the truck.

 

wow, was I right???? maybe some spacers for now, then the big decision on rims and tires.................... Aauurriigghhttt..............

 

Did you re-torque your lift?? Your running 265's on stock rims?? T/C uca's,i'm thinking you could clear 285's.

 

Well I was thinking of getting some 18's with some 285 or 295 /60's but dont want to take off flaps...........but with the higher prices for 18" tires, I might just black out the stockers and get some 16" tires.....going to wait until after the holidays.........
