So I was driving in mud today, using some wheelspin to keep me moving. Got slightly hung up, as I'm getting pulled back, I hear a loud bang. The truck is now making a loud banging (shakes the vehicle like hitting a speed bump at 40mph). Something in the rear diff, or maybe one of the axle shafts is broken. The banging happen once ever wheel rotation. Truck was only drivable enough to get it to a place to be towed. I am definitely losing faith with this rig. I use all my trucks off road, and have never broken anything, quite disappointing. I guess I was wrong when in another thread, I stated that I thought these diffs were tough, and only the 05's were known to fail. I have stock size BFG AT's, so tires should not have provoked this. Truck has 18000kms.....
I wonder what the stealership will say....

Yes. And 4wd shifting issues, and the trans shifting funny. But I don't feel it's a lemon. I'm just a little surprised it's not a better truck overall. I was totally shocked when I had to be towed out......

Depends on what page the bullshit answer guide was left at when they glance down at it

We can't seem to replicate the problem

    Perfectly Normal

Never seen something like this happen before

Did you recently add air too the tires?

That amount of rust is perfectly normal

That part is considered a wear item and you will need to pay a diagnostic fee

Are you sure you made an appointment, I can't seem to find you in the system

I'd be more than a little surprised. I haven't abused my Taco, but it got plenty of use in the snow last winter (including vehicle recoveries and navigating unplowed forest service roads, all with the stock Rugged Fails no less), so it's been well used. I haven't had problem one, other than the 2-1 downshift issue that has the TSB. Rust is also minimal...

If I were you, I'd be pissed at this point. Way too much going wrong with a new truck...especially a Toyota...sounds like this one was phoned in, last one on the line on a Friday evening...

Wondering this myself. You were going forward got stuck, got pulled out from the rear, I think. Were you in forward gear, I know it sounds silly but if you were in reverse or neutral that would not be a good sound.

Or could have been one of the electronic gizmos applying brakes and forcing diff to quit.
However, what is interesting this is 2010 that blew its diff. I knew e-locked diffs were weaker but this is nuts.

:stirthepot: This guy has nothing but problems with his truck.

Either he has a lemon but its pretty sketchy that all the OP does is complain on here about problems ya know.

IMHO could be a Dodge, Ferd or Chebby Rep trying to stir the pot. Is that hemi? What's up?

Sounds like exactly what happened to my truck about a month ago, and thats why I now have an FJ cruiser. LOL. I heard a loud bang too, then a clunk and shake at every rotation. Dealership fixed it just fine, specially since I put stock wheels on so you should be fine. Good luck.
