I was doing a vehicle inspection and I noticed some oil on the rear axle housing where the rear differential carrier assembly bolts on. I took it to Toyota dealer for inspection. They agreed all on their own to replace it. No arguing required. I guess that I had a 50/50 chance of them doing it without a fight. I am really glad they did the right thing and covered it.

I browsed through the dealers paperwork, had this not been under warranty they would have charged over $1,000 dollars in labor. It required them to drain the diff, pull the axles, and then remove the diff carrier assembly to replace the gasket. :)

If anyone was wondering, my truck is a 2009 DC OR, it has 20,000 miles on it's almost 2-years old. Never towed anything before. I do offroad but nothing too serious.

I'll edit this post and put up an after pic when I have more time.

They charge a grand to pull the diff and re-seal?

I did it myself in a storage unit with handtools and jackstands in about 2 hours and out of pocket $3 for RTV gasket maker.

Holy shit. I am in the wrong business.

So i just got mine done today, and the dealer didnt give me any crap about my lift. My only complaint is that it seams like a sloppy job they did. They used red hi-temp RTV for the gasket, (I assume there is an actual toyota gasket for this application) and they left oil residue where the axles get taken out, and where the diff splits.

I will watch it for a few days and make sure there is no oil leaking out.
