Rear diff leak..again

Here are some pictures of my truck, you can see where it's leaking out of the driveshaft entering the diff

 

took mine to the dealership, they fixed it. no leaks now!

 

The metal in the studs is soft. They're physically stretching. Thus some people have had issues.

But that's just my educated deduction on the matter. Welder / machinist in the aerospace field.

Someone needs to cut one of those off and do a tensile and rw hardness test on them for starters.


OP post supports this. They'll just keep stretching, compromising the steel.

We need an OAL measurement on these. Guess I should measure mine.

 

I would like to know the pitch and length of the studs maybe a harder steel and nut is needed

 

It's a fine line between soft and malleable to hard and brittle.

I had no leaks, I re-torqued to 25# they were all pretty loose.

 

So took it in over the weekend, they completely redid everything with updated parts(again). So i guess I don’t have to worry about changing our rear diff fluid for a while.

One big item that keeps popping up with several Local Taco Folks I know is that if you have the stock breathers installed and are out running hard and cross water somewhere the breather clamps shut and then when the differential Cools off air gets sucked in anywhere it can find a weak point (gaskets and Seals) So first thing I have done was to install the breather Kit that has long hoses that bring the breather up under in the engine compartment and has a filter on it mines a ARB one. along with that one of the guys showed me his stock breather from a 2017 Taco that was stuck shut from fine mud that got in it so in that case when the pumpkin gets hot it pressurized and blew out an axle seal!

 

Even people that have done the breather mod have still had problems.

 

Could be so far everyone I know who had the problem had dealer correct it then did the breather or did the breather mod before have not seen it again ...Yet.... the trucks range from 2016 to 2018 .. Woops I have a 2000 and 2018 does the 2000 count? the only "Oil leak" the 2000 had to deal with I was on the road and past due oil change time so I had it done at a Jiffy Lube and did a real "Jiffy" job somehow dumped oil all down the side of the engine....I was 17 miles away when I started to Really smell hot oil and see smoke pulled over fast with the WTF! check the oil level and it was fine and then saw the mess all down the side of the engine and in the front pan.

 

Make sense, except it’s never ran hard or submerged in water. Either way I don’t care what/why it’s happening as long as it’s fixed within the warranty time frame

 

I have been in twice for the so called”weeping”. I’m going in Monday for 35,000 visit and today I recheck and this is what I find!! So, I start looking around before the warranty runs out at 36,000 and I find the ac blower beginning to crack like everyone else. Last visit they said my front brakes are at a 4 and recommend I change them this visit. Really, already!! Thinking I might need to invest in extended warranty to cover some of this crap!

 

I believe this falls under the power train warranty, I think it's up to 60k miles for that. Emissions warranties are at 80k miles. The rest falls under the 36k mile b to b warranty

 

Looks like I’ll be checking my blower

 

Is this blower Issue common on all Years?

 

My son has a 2017 and his ac blower shredded to pieces when he turned on his ac. He is #801 on list at dealership to get it replaced.

 

Yes, if you start the truck with fan already on high setting, the plastic breaks. Happened on mine also

 

My ac gets turned off before stopping engine. Shop manager said its pressed on to shaft and weakens the plastic especially with the heat here in the south. Son has a 2017 and I have a 2016. They are all the same part, they won’t replace the plastic blower, they only replace the entire motor assemble.
