    Not that I could find
Same p/n 4wd ECU controls the locker in the 4wd OR and 2wd OR. The 4wd ECU behaves differently in 2wd vs 4wd, apparently thru CAN messages from the Body ECU.

So no good way i could figure to make the ECU act like it were in a 2wd... Maybe somebody could make a CAN spoofer or something? (beyond my skills)

My brother in law does this for mating disparate chargers / batteries / motors for EV prototypes. It sounds time consuming but not overly complicated once all the setup is in place.

I wouldn’t want to do it in a production vehicle. But he has driven in the back seat with a laptop modifying while the driver is at the wheel. Sounds like urban cowboy stuff to me.

10-4. Interesting thread as it would be a nice feature to be able to lock a Tacoma diff in 2wd. I traded-out of a '17 F250 4x4 and it was great to have the option to simply pull a knob and lock the rear diff. I used it often, particularly on wet roads, when starting on a hill or merging into traffic.

I mean I have a lockright in my land cruiser that is borderline locked all the time and I know a lot of people with lincoln lockers. I am just bummed I am not good enough with these electronics to do it. I want to be able to lock my rear end up in 2 low and 2 hi when I want.

All the information you need is in this thread. If you go back only a few pages there is even more detail.

When you say on your list... how high on your list is it? :D
Trying to decide between tackling this myself and waiting for your option, which I'm sure will be much more elegant.

Has someone solved it? All I've seen so far is a lot of the 2Lo mod and unsuccessful attempts at other things. I admit I could have missed something though. Not really interested in the 2Lo mod.

Several people have rigged manual actuation for a OEM rear diff locker on a 3rd gen and totally bypassed the 4wd ecu for locker control. (Nobody has done a microcontroller solution nor an ECU/manual dual control. Nobody has made the dash lights work... to my knowledge). I have assisted with a few of these mods, but there may be more I am unaware of.

It's not hard to do (as mentioned several times), all the data is here, and there are several builds and slightly different mods mentioned in this thread.

(Nobody has included speed protections of any kind, nobody has disabled ABS that i am aware of... therefore I am not making a full DIY thread. But I will still assist if people have questions.)

Not to mention several other brands offer it from the factory. The F150 comes to mind.

Yes. Why you need a locker above that (or near that for that matter) is beyond me. To be honest, I thought it disengaged at about 5 MPH or so. But, fact is, you can engage it from the factory in 2 Hi.

It’s not so much a need as a want, IMO. I had a lunchbox Lock Right in my 1st Gen and it was “always on” obviously. It’s one less thing to switch on... (I love some of the videos with Raptors and TRX’s where they dial in all the different off road modes!) I get frustrated when I have to wait for the stupid dial-activated transfer case to shift into Lo. Much prefer a lever.

Ok so I finally did some trail testing yesterday. I kept the locker engaged for about 15 minutes going up a rutted out snowy/muddy section of ironclads. It worked just like it did with the factory wiring. I also tested the wiring and it’s running at around 8V when engaged. So far no issues 9E781BE1-0A7C-46D6-AFB3-0A63BC933052.jpg

Were you in 2WD or 4HI? I'd really like to use the locker without having to go to 4Lo all the time!

If it works in 2 lo, there is no reason it couldn't work in 4 hi/2hi.
