From what I've determined you cannot engage the rear diff lock unless you're in 4-Lo which sucks. There are plenty of instances where simply locking a diff can get you out of trouble such as a boat ramp where 4-Lo sometimes isn't necessary. Has anyone "hacked" the rear diff lock switch so it doesn't require being in 4-Lo to work?

I did search and could only find reference to a 2nd gen "gray wire mod" but nothing on the 3rd gen. If you know of a thread please share. Thanks!

Having the complete wiring diagram now I have determined that NO it would not be feasible to hack/bypass the diff lock switch to provide anytime lock without having to engage 4-Lo. The diff lock function is hugely dependent on the ECU so tampering with the wiring IMO could create unwelcome trouble. IIWII...

Check out how the 2wd model OR locks the diff. Obviously the 2wd model cannot go into 4lo so I would assume something would be different with the programming. Anyone have any experience with this?

probably because Toyota does not want you to. Just like they changed the ability of the owner to easily eliminate the seat belt chime on 2013 models. They read this forum

what about putting in a switch on wiring at rear diff that bypasses factory wiring while simultaneously sending power to locker to lock it in?
