Is it normally difficult to get the rear diff to lock in with the truck at a stop?

Brand new truck, just in my driveway testing all the 4wd functions. 4H lock in no problem by rolling straight forward or backwards a few feet. After that, 4L engages at a stand still, but after pushing the rear diff lock button it just keeps flashing the red icon on the dash. It won't go solid red and lock in. I moved the truck forwards and backwards about the length of the truck itself, no dice.

Switched to 2H, drove around the block, parked, and tried it again. Still won't lock the rear diff. I've only had a chance to test it on pavement so I'm not gonna go turning the wheel in 4L...but maybe that's what it needs to get the rear diff locked in?

Does this get easier to lock in over time?

I'm thinking if I were already stuck in something, I wouldn't be able to lock the rear diff at all with the way it's acting at this point.

Drive a bit and it’ll lock.

Well shoot the first part I can't help ya sorry. The second part yes the e locker does engage easier over time.

Could always find loose gravel or a dirt road and try getting it engaged and not be as worried about pushing it to engage the locker

The first time I engaged my diff lock, I was in a spot I couldn't get traction in 4H. At an uphill standstill, I put it in 4L and engaged the lock. Didn't roll backwards or need to give it gas to engage. There's a video of my doing it too, can do some digging and editing if you're interested.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
I put it in 4L, drive forward a few feet to be sure that's locked in. Then I drop it in Neutral, press the diff lock button, put it in Reverse and back up a few feet, and then it locks right up. If you use it every few weeks it will just lock up while in 4L drive without issues.

Shift to neutral before engaging 4L.

Yeah I just drove it straight forward and backwards, but only straight out of my short ass driveway lol. There's no dirt road nearby that I can think of at the moment. Also I'm tired as hell. Happy Monday.

Yeah I got this part covered. 4L isn't an issue, just can't get the rear diff to lock.

Sounds like yours engaged no prob at a stand still. Mine won't at a standstill... at least not this very first time. Ha

I'm lucky enough to work maybe 6 miles from some decent offroad areas that sometimes are open and sometimes aren't. That being said I put it through its paces playing with literally everything multiple times to get a feel for it. It gets easier to get into 4L and engage the locker too the more you use it. I'm sure when I get new tires I'll use the locker less but as is I've only legitimately needed to use it a handful of times to where without it I'd need more momentum. Go out and have fun with it

I’ve never got my rear lock to work without moving after pushing the button. Hopefully that’ll change after some more use.

Sounds like I don't need to be concerned at this point. I will try to mess around with it more soon

    4 run, 2 don't
Drive forward or back a few feet for everything to mesh up and engage; completely normal.

Oh, the irony that I was giving bad advice on locking the rear diff, when I don't have locking rear diff... LOL

That didn't work for me, but I'm sure it's still normal for now. I will try it again on something other than pavement and turn the wheels a little.

yeah once you're in 4low it sometimes helps to drive a bit forward while turning the wheel side to side. Also keep in mind the locker won't engage unless you're going 5mph or less. Once locked you can go faster/as fast as 4lo will let you
