I have a 2006 4x4 Tacoma and I’m looking into getting a locking rear diff for it I’ve never had one before so, if anyone can suggest anything maybe some pros or cons of getting one or even some good ones to look into it’d be appreciated.

Yea man thanks. money isn’t too big of a problem but I’m also not trying to spend and arm and a leg on it. I’m looking for reasonable affordable prices but also don’t want to go too cheap and it go out or not work.

Curious you don’t have and electronic Locker that came with the truck?
Not sure but maybe you can find an E-locker from a taco.
Otherwise arb, get the benefits of on board air as well.
    Pros are a plenty.
You’ll Have to do another diff Oil change about 2,500 after the install.
Other than that it’s regular maintenance

Yea I was curious abt that too but I’ve had the truck for abt two years now and I’ve noticed a lot of stuff it doesn’t have that other tacomas like it do have. I ain’t sure if it was a base model of some sort or maybe a work truck model I’m not rlly sure abt any of it. The guy that had it before me just used it to drive bakc and forth to work and wasn’t really into off-roading or anything like that so it never made a difference to him.

Well I just put a ARB locker in my Tundra. It was about $1,000 installed.
I took the third member out myself, had it put in, then reinstalled myself to save some money. Air lines are easy to run.

A True TRD OffRoad would have a factory locking diff, if it doesn't then it's not a TRD OffRaod.

Could be a TRD sport - those dont have lockers.

Could be someone just put a TRD badge on it, thats not uncommon.

TRD Sport up till 09 would have a limited slip diff instead of a locker.

Lockers are great for serious offroad, but I'd wager only a small percentage of people who drive offroad can benefit from one.

"Lunchbox" lockers are ones that replace the spider gears and they are cheap and usually easy to install. Spartan, torq, lockright, all make one. They have some serious downsides to drivability though.

Selectable lockers are where it's at. Perfect road manners and predictable locking offroad.

That being said, I rarely use my locker. I have to be pushing pretty hard for it to be helpful, but it's the perfect solution when you need it.
