I'm new to Tacoma ownership and I've been looking into lockers for my rear differential but I'm not sure which option to go with. Looking at 4 wheel parts there's a lot of stuff that doesn't quite make sense so I was hoping to ask more experienced people for advice. I've got a 2016 sr5 v6 4x4 4 door tacoma. Thank you in advance!

Why ARB over the aftermarket e-locker options?

Since you have a V6 without a factory locker, you have an 8" rear differential. That means you have quite a few choices. You can do a mechanical locker, a selectable locker or a limited slip depending on your needs. If you search YouTube, there are quite a few great videos on the different styles and how they operate.

You will find most will suggest ARB. This can be costly. You need to either have some sort of air storage system or an on-demand compressor which can increase cost and complexity. They are very reliable and time proven though. They come recommended for a reason.

Newer E-lockers can save the extra install of air equipment with just some wiring. They work well... they do have a draw back of engagement and disengagement going from forward to reverse and back depending on the design.

Mechanical lockers can be cheaper and easier to install, no wiring or pneumatics needed. They can be clunky on road though.

Any specific model you were looking at?

I have an arb air locker that being said if i had to do it again I would go with an e locker. I've had no issues with mine but if you search, basically the seal inside the diff can leak and if it ever does that you have to go back in the pumpkin

I love my Eaton elocker, has been awesome. Definitely recommend it for not having to deal with a compressor.
