Rear diff oil??

    Redline is one of the only pure poly ester synthetic Group V gear oils made.

    Oil analysis has proven Redline gear oils superior to anything made sans Motul and Amsoil.

    I’ll spend hundreds a month on beer, I can at least spend much less than $100 on my gear oil every five years.

    the drain plug is magnetic, a lot of the metal shavings will be harmlessly attached to the plug and wont float in the oil and damage the gears, also the recommended change interval is every 30,000 miles FYI

    Oil analysis all at BITOG. Buy whatever you want but when the difference between the cheapest $6 and the best $12 for a few quarts filled diff, I know what’s in my truck.

    I’m aware of the point you’re trying to make. Don’t you worry, I’ve got a lot of money to burn.

    I spent $50 on mobile1 5 quarts. It’s full synthetic so it’s probably better then what Toyota put in there. I didn’t know if the 85w vs the 90w would make a difference but from what I am seeing here it doesn’t. From the best that I can find the only reason Toyota is using 85w vs what the rest of the world is using is to get better gas mileage to please the EPA. As long as I change it every 20-30k I should be fine. $50 in oil and $ 3 in crush washers Not too bad. I guess if I was towing a lot I would think about ams oil.

    Yes 85W gear oil is now US spec for cafe fuel standards, just like 0W20 engine oil is when other countries run 0W30.

    Just changing your gear oil every 60-100k miles is ahead of most vehicle owners.

    seems that there is no real benefit to using synth in the diffs if you drive on road all the time except for a longer interval between oil changes. Costs more but lasts longer so it saves money supposedly but the thing I noticed with people that take meticulous care of their vehicles is that they like to run synth thinking it is better than dino oil BUT they also change their oil at shorter intervals(again thinking it's better) thereby negating the single biggest benefit of synth oil. If you go offroading and dunk your axles then you will probably want to change your oil right after so dino is the way to go. If you like to change your fluids once a year then again, dino. If you plan on changing it once and leaving it like that for years to come and don't go offroad often then synth would probably be the better choice. For me, I changed my gears and ECGS specifically recommends NON synthetic so I'll go with that.

    Synthetics do not stick to the gears as well as dino oils, actually causing greater heat buildup than dino oils that absorb the heat away from the metal. There is at least one gear shop that is a poster on this site that strenuously recommends against synthetics in diffs. They run Lucas. When I do maintenance at the interval, I will run Lucas also. YMMV.

    agree with all above except t-case, until they release the specifications for their "special oil" I'm going to stick with their super-expensive "special oil"

    Isn't that just 80w90 also? If you still have the can/jug see if it clues you toward the manufacturer. I'd wager you can get the same oil from the same manufacturer in a different jug at Walmart

    According to who? Toyota only recommends inspection every 15k and change if needed during unique driving but doesn’t even call to have it changed during routine maintenance and that stops at 120k

    I just changed it an hour ago. I have 4200 miles on my truck. The oil sure was dirty for only having 4.2k. It was not dark but gray is. I am glad I did it. Really similar to what the guy seen in the video.

    jup, I changed mine at 49k miles and it looked pretty bad im glad I didn't wait any longer to do it, from now on I just do it at 30k miles just to be on the safe side.

    120k miles is a lot, most people will use the severe condition interval and change the gear oil themselves since its easy and inexpensive DIY and not have to pay a dealer to do.

    its SAE 75, the only one thats even close is Ravanol. I'm sure a 75w90 or 80w90 would work fine however I would like to see the specifications first. Not only that t-case gets changed how often, 100k'ish? I'll wait, hopefully they will release specs so we know.
