Sorry to bother you, But had some questions about this mod.

    1. when you installed the union into the diff. Did you use any type of tape or something around the threads and is there a torq rating.

    2. When you used the clamp instead of the zip tie for the fuel line attaching it to the brake line bracket. If I looked at it correctly there is already a bolt for the bracket you just unloosened and reused that same bolt and just drilled out the rubber clamp opening a bit larger. Did you you add a lock washer or anything at that point/junction.

    3. The picture which has the clamp, bolt and washer, drill bit. That bolt and washer was used at the very high point inside the brake light housing. Just checking didnt know if that bolt was used at the brake line bracket or inside the brake light housing area.

    4. Just wondering your opinion that it may get hot from the bulbs in the brake housing and possible would melt the rubber fuel line. I have not taken apart mine yet so I do not know how much room is in there. Didnt know how close the bulb housing is to the fuel /breather line. I am talking about driving at night while the driving lights are on and there is a constant heat in that area.

Again thank you for your time. I want to do this mod and these were just some things that I wanted to get some clarification on.

    Hi Tacozilla. No problem.

    1) yes I used Teflon tape. And made the fitting very snug. I didn't have a torque setting. Make sure the area is clean before removal.
    2) I used the existing bolt/washer only, for the drilled out clamp.
    3) this picture that you refer to was for the brake line location.
    4) there is no heat issue to worry about IMO. The fuel line is very tough and usually resides on a hot engine - way hotter than the tail lights get. You'll be OK.

    Good luck with the project!

    Hey matjeka,
This thread was written up by uncleart. I could not take credit for that. I was just asking for some clarification. I am one of those anally OCD types. So I just wanted to make sure I understood everything before I started this mod.

Okay dumb question, what exactly does this do and why do you need it?
are there two valves installed here? one at the diffirential case and one at the end of the hose line by the tail light housing?
So the breather is just a checkvalve? in what direction?

OH OKAY , NEVER MIND I FINALLY GET IT.........This is for off-roadies so when they drive on high water and stuff. correct?

Correct. It's a known issue if you drive through deep enough water and the differential is too hot, it will suck water into it which is bad. This moves the breather to a location where it won't suck water into the differential.

The existing valve is a pressure relief valve that will close when the pressure inside the diff drops like when the diff drops into water. That could be bad for the diff since water can be sucked in through the axle and other seals contaminating the diff fluid. The mod uses a two way breather to allow air to be sucked in through the hose from a high and dry area. I did it since I launch my boat in many areas where I need to submerge the rear diff in water to get the boat off. 69XXX miles and two fluid changes and not one sign of water in the fluid.

Excellent explanations! When I removed the relief valve for the mod, after some driving around; I was shocked at how much air sucked into the diff!

Nice work Arty! That's exactly where I put my diff breather mod (on the other taillight than you but same concept). I changed my diff oil 25K miles after the mod and not a sign of water in the fluid. The oil looked very new when I changed it.
