    Ill make this short:
First time(@13k) wet spots appeared, dealer tightened diff cover and told me to come back if they reappear.
Second time(@14.5k), dealer re-did the entire thing, meaning they drained fluid, used new gasket/hardware/fluid.
Now @37XXX i noticed weeping at the same 2 spots. I am curious, will this be covered under:
    a. Good will sort of thing, since this has been documented as a problem in my truck
    b. 60k power-train warranty
    c. Out of pocket expense
I will talk with dealer on Monday, but wondering whats a likely outcome for this for those that dealt with similar issue

Still covered under original warranty - problem has not been remedied. Stand firm.

Makes me think some micro crack or porosity at that surface interface.

Wouldn't porosity be moot with a gasket?

You would think. Looking for reasons why at same location, mucho miles later. Machined surface appears sealed and maybe is, but leak follows porosity really near sealing surface, close enough that sealant covered it for a bit then ultimately failed again.

When I worked as a mechanic we used Permatex Ultra Blue gasket maker (both with and without gaskets) for the most toughest or problematic sealing jobs.

There were several critical factors in making a great seal using this product:

    1. Both surfaces had to be oil free and we would etch with emery cloth.

    2. The Permatex Ultra Blue was applied to both surfaces and rubbed in to form a strong bond. We would smear off lighty any excess which squeezed out.

    3. We would wait at least 24 hours for the UB to cure before putting back in service.

    https://www.permatex.com/products/g...-blue-multipurpose-rtv-silicone-gasket-maker/

We also used Permatex's copper version with great success but most of us preferred the Ultra Blue. There were several applications where we used a thick bead of UB instead of OEM rubber seals and it worked even better.

I doubt the dealerships use UB, they probably have to use what the Toyota engineers specify which obviously isn't working.

Mine is also weeping for a 3rd time
Dealer is claiming this may get claim denied by corporate. Saying the hit stretched the bolts. I am not sure what is going to happen now.

That's nonsense, I've dragged my diff over so many rocks I've had to reshape the drain plug with a dremel to get a socket on it, and my diff has never leaked around the gasket

In other news I should probably invest in a diff skid

Exactly. The problem is surface finish. Not correct. Permatex would fix it but, that, from an OEM POV, is not a correct way to fix it because permatex puts the control in the mechanic's hand, not Toyota. We all know some guys will do it right and aome guys will screw it up.
Right or wrong, Toyota has a way they want it fixed and the cannot be any deviation.
Now if it were out of warranty, blue would be my choice.

That was my thinking on it as well. Since they have fixed it 2 times before and the 1 time took 38 days of me not having my truck. I was told to bring it back in a 1000 miles.

Just sounds like typical dealer shifting blame on the customer, not surprising but always frustrating to hear.

I thought this was a recall. Can't fix it, replace it. Their dime. In NM they have to fix it or buy back.

That's BS, they are looking for a way out. Stretching the bolts??? Almost comical how creative they get.

If you ever have a problem with your truck and dealer is giving you a hard time u call call manufacturer hotline and bitch and moan and will most likely get what you want.

Side note I had a weep on my old truck and left it. Eventually after the gasket swelled up the leak went away.

I thought I had problems, that’s pretty bad. Sucks dealer giving you a runaround
