Was under the truck, noticed rear diff weeping, I know this was an issue for 2016-2017 models.

Wondering if I should just wipe away and see if it comes back or just go to dealer and get it looked at.

I had the same thing. Took it to the dealer and they tightened the bolts, and cleaned it off. And said to keep an eye on it and if it comes back go back to dealer.

I had the weeping on my 2016 OR as bad as yours . The dealer wiped it and retorqued the bolts . Over 2 years ago now and no signs or weeping . I have been really surprised but it looks dry as a bone . Make sure the dealer documents it when fixing it .

You're right, trip to dealer is best. I'll be doing that

Not yet but it has only been four weeks. But it is now documented with the dealer.

Leave it. I believe it’s seepage from assembly. It’s certainly not a leak. Even if it was, by the time it leaked to critical levels, our sun would be in its iron fusion stage and the human race would have been extinct for eons. Take it to the dealer if it makes you feel better.

My diff looks like yours, #notworried

I Rebuild heavy diffs from time to time as a condition of my receiving a paycheck.

Just my opinion...weeping is fine. If it drips, there is a problem. Weeping is such a small amount of fluid. I rarely see a diff that isn't weeping.

Don’t wait for your powertrain warranty to expire before you take it in (60mos/60k miles)

I’ll one (hundred K and some) up your mileage on my 2002 to over 275k with no weeping diffs, leaking timing covers or oil pan! :hattip:

Had same issues as mine 2017 dclb. Wiped it clean almost a year ago and never came back. I’m wary of the dealer tightening and making it worse. Any way I got the extended 100t miles warranty .

Took it to dealer for 15K service today and mentioned the rear diff, initially the service writer said he will document it but until its actually leaking the dealership wouldnt touch it. Called an hour later and told me they will be replacing the gasket lol.

Also getting the TSB 0-62 update for the updated ECU , so all in all a good vistit.

Mine looked like that a few months ago. Currently, it is bone dry. I presume whatever was there got washed off, and no fluid has come out since. I'm going to monitor it, but so far chalking it up to left-over seeps from manufacturing.

I'm pretty sure I probably could have let it be and it probably would have been just fine. The upside is I get a new gasket and diff flush at 15K.. the possible downside is the person working on it doesnt a shit job and then I'm dealing with a real headache

Hopefully it's a dealership you trust! I'm still not sure about mine, only had two experiences with them. Coming up on the 10k service, so I feel that will be a decent indication of what kind of work they do.

I did ask them about the TSB 0062-18 re-flash at my 5k service and they gave me the "operating as designed" line. My internal response to that was, "Yeah, it is operating as designed - and that design sucks. THAT"S WHY TOYOTA MADE A TSB FOR THE RE-FLASH!!!"

Yeah, I was afraid of that so I said, "I spend a lot of time up north in Flagstaff and the higher elevation really makes it bad so I'm hoping you guys can do me a solid and give me the update"
    Seemed to work

Mine was weeping last summer and I had the gasket replaced and tightened under warranty, now 20k miles later... was cleaning the truck up after a short vacation in the mountains and noticed this. I’m concerned with just getting it retightened with a new gasket again given this could happen in another 20k when my power train warranty runs out... thoughts?F6D7273A-233F-44C5-8553-68CE184B9C11.jpg
