After a few years of this, I’m starting to think it’s leftover assembly lube that’s burning off. Rarely have we seen an diff that’s dripping fluid.

My 2017 wept. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the gasket. No problems since.

Anyone know what the gasket material is?

I *think* I read here that someone said it was paper once....

So long as you check your diff fluid level every few years and change it when you should... it probably adds more "risk" of a problem if you have the dealer "fix" the weeping.

If your that worried about it, have them fix it near the end of your warranty, so you'll essentially get a fee rear diff fluid change. (You get another year warranty on their work don't forget)

No drips, no worries. You'll probably find it spreads to a certain point then stops...

Logged a case w/ Toyota, a field service rep called me and I dropped my truck off w/ the dealer. he approved the replacing of the gasket (a $8 piece of paper best I can tell?) which looks like took 2 hours of labor to complete. still seems unacceptable to me to have this diff weeping 2x in a year after they already did the "fix" to torque / gasket last year when it was weeping.

We'll see if they got it sealed properly this time in a few months I suppose... At least it's documented as a recurring issue which should give me a leg to stand on if anything happens outside of warranty expiration.
