My mother said I was a disappointment as well. I’ve learned to live with it. Can we still be friends?

For the record, I considered my wife and daughter when I bought my truck. That they would be able to drive it outta the bush if something happened to me. Ironically, my daughter now drives standard, and I’m jealous. My next Taco will be a manual if they still offer them then. The auto is fine. I prefer it when wheeling quite honestly.

    TOO funny!!

I have a Manual 6 speed and I know that matters deeply to yallz on this fine Friday..

I know that we are a bit prissy about it but seriously, how often do you meet someone that owns a MT vehicle, much less capable of driving one?
Something like 6% of US autos are MT these days - the MT makes my both my car and truck a heck of a lot more fun to drive.. way more fun!

NOT trying to argue one is better than the other - NOT trying to have that argument b/c we all have our own use requirements/demands..

@Stocklocker makes me laugh that your daughter drives a MT now - the irony -
Hat's off to her b/c I tend to go YEARS before I meet/run into another woman who has a MT vehicle -

Capable of driving one? It's not some black magic... I know more people that can drive stick than can't.

I agree it is not black magic but I know very few people that can drive one - or drive one and not make me cringe when they ride the clutch...

Yeah. It’s very cool and I’m very proud of her. For her first car she bought herself a minty-fresh 2013 Corrolla with a 5 speed. She basically learned to drive and learned to drive 5 speed at the same time, so she’s fully indoctrinated now. It’s a joy to be in the passenger seat and watch her get all the shifts, rolling starts in 2nd, hill starts, clean downshifts etc.

I’ll be sad when Zuckbot and Musk force us all to use self-driving EVs in the metaverse. My kid will be losing a great freedom, skill, and pleasure she only just got access to.

hopefully that is still many years away.

So, you win the good dad award right there!
There is a young lady across the street from me - she is 14 - when she is able to drive, I am gonna offer to teach her to drive stick so she can learn..

I learned to drive on my mom's Previa, for all of two seconds and then moved to my dad's accord which was a 5spd -
I also had to learn to change the oil and the tires before I could get my licence..

I love the MT, it is pure joy and there is no fucking way in hell that anyone will pry my hands off that shifter/wheel, my grandpa made it to 92 with 2 knees replaced before he gave up on the clutch, so I got goals..
IDK if I never have a 'new' car again..

She has options, they just aren't the 'normal' ones - but being normal is over/rated anyways!

That's just it... I need to wait until the knees are replaced before I go back to a MT. Replaced knees have newer tech then our Tacos, but my current OEM knees are a mess.

LOL... I like how a thread that has nothing to do with transmission types, has devolved into why MT's are so great, just like the previous poster prognosticated. You guys and these manuals are ridiculous! Driving a manual is a skill, but I think you guys are putting WAY too much emphasis on that skill, as if there's something truly inspiring about it...

I've driven and owned plenty of manual vehicles (trucks, cars, motorcycles, etc)... but I'm still not inclined to add that to my resume or dating profile... Next you guys will be bragging about how you can type with your fingers on the home row.

I'm so proud of little Suzie for learning how to move her left foot, right foot and right hand all at the same time. You done good, StockLocker!
